He runs a hand through his dark hair, looking annoyed and torn. I look away, and down. Was she going to be one of those? Or was this real? Either way, I knew the answer he needed.
“Just go.” I waved a hand, dismissing it. He would anyway. He would view this as his fault, and he would go rescue his damsel in distress, and whatever had been beginning between us would be dead before it got a chance.
I stalk to the kitchen, cleaning plates, washing them with more force than necessary.
I am surprised when I feel him against my back, his hands sliding around my waist, resting against my stomach. “Inara, I have to do the right thing here.” He says softly against my ear. “It will be the one and only time. And if I find out she staged it, I'll let you kick her ass. Deal?”
I nod, helpless with him so close. He presses a kiss to my temple, then my neck, his teeth grazing ever so slightly. “I'll kill whoever it is, for cockblocking me when I've waited two years to get laid.” His laugh is soft, warm and dark against my ear.
I gasp, my body reacting to that news in ways I hadn't expected. I had always assumed he took lovers. It never occurred to me that he honored his vows.
He feels my reaction, and growls low against my ear. Without warning, his hand dips into the waistband of my jeans, his fingers finding my slick heat and dipping inside. I moan, grasping the kitchen counter for support. “Kieran.” My voice is breathless and smokey as he rubs gently, making me fall apart on his fingers before I can think. I cry his name again as I do.
He spins me to face him, his fingers still damp with my juices. He locks eyes with me as he licks his fingers clean, tasting me, and for some reason that leaves me absolutely breathless.
“Mmmm. f**k you taste sweet.” He kisses me again, letting me taste myself on his tongue. “You're still a virgin, aren't you?” The question is whispered against my lips, and the way I freeze is his answer.
“Jesus, I'm killing whoever took me away from you right now.” He schools his features to the cold calm I'm used to. The change is visible. A second later, he's striding out the door, but he looks back over his shoulder at me. “Wait for me.”
I nod, still trying to find my balance, and remembering belatedly to shut off the water in the sink.
