Wolf Training

April 7th It had been a day since the announcement aired at breakfast. It's the middle of my Thursday and I've been tirelessly working on my essay and my wolf. I know it's only been a day, but I am tired. When I'm home, I get harassed. When I'm at school, I get teased. It's never ending. I'm writing in you at lunch because the one friend I had decided to trade me in when some of the popular girls, (Betas and Gammas) started being nice to her. We were supposed to be partners for the project in Chem, but she bailed on me yesterday. Now, I'm paired with Luke and I can barely speak in his direction. Anyways, I gotta finish my last two classes. Goodbye, Journal. I walked into Chemistry and saw Luke sitting at the lab table we now share. He smiled at me as I sat down next to him. "So, I was thinking we could do a DNA comparison project. Like, where we do an experiment showing the differences in DNA." Luke asked, excitement in his voice. "And, how would we do that? If we use our DNA, we'll reveal the biggest secret we have." I said, quietly. "Eh, we can get together later tonight and brainstorm. That is, if you have nothing going on tonight." He quirked an eyebrow at me, awaiting my response. "Um, I have some...training to do tonight. Gonna try to unlock another ability. Besides, you wouldn't wanna be seen voluntarily spending time with me in front of the others anyway." I looked down at my hands as I spoke. Thank Goddess, we only have two wolves in this class with us. They won't challenge the future Alpha, either. He looked back to Mr. Davidson and took notes diligently. I watched him, having already read this chapter in the Chem book. I wonder what he's thinking. I heard a slight buzzing sound and then a voice, his voice, was in my head. L: We can talk like this if you'd prefer. E: H-how are you in my head? L: It's called Mind-linking. E: I've never heard of that before. L: Let's meet in the woods behind the pack house after dinner. I'll help you train and we can brainstorm. The buzzing happened again and I felt him leave my mind. The teacher droned on and eventually the bell rang. I was a zombie through my next class and the bike ride home. As soon as I got home, I had to do my homework while helping cook the pack house dinner. Most of the younger pack members attended as well as the Alpha family. I watched Luke from my seat at the table as he flirted with an Omega named Stephanie. I guess Maggie is over with. As soon as I was done eating, I began cleaning my plate and washes the dishes from the pack members that left the table already. Maggie, Alice, and two boys, I think they're named Tom and Henry, came into the kitchen. They closed the door and one of the guys stood next to it. "Can you help you with something?" I asked in a friendly tone, not looking up from the plate in my hand. "You can leave Luke alone and give up on the Alpha's challenge." Maggie said from right behind me. I sat down the plate in the sink and turned around. "Why does it matter if I unlock my wolf or not? It doesn't affect you." I said, exasperated. She growled under her breath and her eyes flashed purple. Her wolf eyes. She punched me in the stomach. I fell down and her and Alice kicked me repeatedly while I laid in the fetal position. What felt like hours went by. When they were finally finished beating me, they walked out of the room, laughing. I laid there for another 10 minutes, writhing in pain. I stood, weakly, and finished my task before going to my house. I walked in, went to my room, changed into shorts and a sports bra to run in, and left again. My bruise covered body burned as I jogged to the woods. I stopped to take a break near the hollowed out log in the center of the woods. Then, I was running again. A blur came up next to me and slowed. I could tell the blur was Luke without having to look over. He watched me as he jogged next to me. "Stop." His voice commanded the very air around us. I stopped jogging in that instant and turn to face him. He scanned up and down my body with his eyes. It made me so nervous. "You're covered in bruises. What happened?" He searched my face. "It's nothing." I lied. "It's definitely something. And, if you're a late bloomer, why aren't you healing?" He reached for my bruised arm. "A few wolves wanted to send me a message. That's all. And, I have no idea why I'm not healing." I watched his fingers run over the bruises. I pulled my arm away and stepped back. He looked at me, confused. L: Do you not feel that? E: Feel what? L: The electricity coming off your skin. E: No. What is it? L: It's power. Just get mad, the wolf will come. I broke the link even though, I don't know how I did. He touched the huge bruise on my stomach, right below my ribs. I winced from the pain. Who does he think he is, just touching me like this? "Sorry." "Why are YOU apologizing? You didn't do it. Although, if your dad wouldn't have advertised his challenge for me, I wouldn't have been beaten." I felt my blood pressure rising. "Does that make you mad?" He stepped closer, getting in my bubble. "You're in my space." I looked up at him, his eyes piercing my own. "Is that annoying?" He touched another bruise, causing more pain. "I'm mad that everyone underestimates me! I'm annoyed that you can tell I like you and you feel the need to taunt me! I'm mad at the fact that I have to clean up after pompous, ungrateful, assholes just because I'm different! My blood BOILS every time I'm reminded of the fact that I have no real friends! My only friend ditched me for your best friend's sister!" My voice got louder and louder. He continued to look down into my eyes and then his gaze went back to my abdomen. I followed his gaze with my own. The bruises were almost gone. He stepped back and watched as the healing slowed. The large one on my stomach was only halfway gone. The rest of them had disappeared entirely. "Maybe you need another strong emotion." He said, thoughtfully. "What do you me--" My voice was cut off by his mouth on mine. He pushed me back against the tree we'd been standing in front of. He lifted me and I wrapped my legs around his waist. The whole time, we continued kissing. His hands gripped my ass and his tongue entered my mouth. I felt the bruise dissipate, but continued. One hand gripped his dark hair and the other gripped his strong arm. His mouth traveled to my neck and I felt some kind of fire begin burning deep inside me. I pressed my hands to his chest and he searched my eyes. "What's wrong?" Hurt hung on the end of his words. "I don't think we should be doing this. I wasn't just beat up because of your father. I was beat up because you're being friendly towards me in public. I don't wanna cause any problems." I placed my hand on the back of his head as my heart sank. He gripped my ass again before setting me down. "You unlocked two abilities today. The key is, strong emotions." He began to walk away, but stopped short of leaving. "We should do the DNA thing using an Ancestry DNA kit. We can record the process and the results. We have two weeks anyway." The next four days fly by in a blur of screaming in the woods and secret study sessions. So far, I haven't been unlocking anything else. I think I'm emotionally blocked or something.
