I refused to let him see how deeply his words cut. Instead, I forced my features into a mask of indifference, even as my heart hammered against my ribcage. "That's fine," I replied, my voice surprisingly steady despite the tremor I felt inside. "I don't need your joy, Ragnar. I just need to shift." He towered over me, his massive frame casting a shadow across my face. The golden eyes that had once shown glimpses of warmth now burned with an arctic fire. "And I need you to understand your place," he growled, the sound rumbling from deep in his chest. "You're not here for comfort. You're not here to make demands." His jaw was clenched tight and he looked at me like I was nothing but an insignificant bother. I was pissed off, but not enough to forget how much louder my wolf was becoming.
