When Aric laid me into bed I tried to close my eyes and sleep away the sickening feeling that had settled in my stomach, but as soon as I closed my eyes I saw Nelson’s blank eyes staring up at the sky. I had killed him, I did that to him. I tried to remember what Aric had said to me before the challenge. If Nelson would have won he would’ve destroyed the lives my pack members have worked so hard to build, but that did little to comfort me.
I rolled in Aric’s arms and buried my face in his neck, I breathed in his scent and listened to his heart beating. I didn’t know where I would be right now without him, I relaxed as he rubbed soft circles up and down my back and let his steady breathing lull me into a deep sleep.
