Veronica I got to the office and was surprised to see Sage already there, her interview must have been pretty quick. I popped my head into her office as I walked by, “Hey Sage, will you grab Nina and meet me in my office?” She nodded and smiled at me, “Of course.” I smiled back at her and made my way into my office. I was relieved to see her view of me hasn’t changed after hearing the ridiculous accusations. Hopefully, the rest of the pack would feel the same. As soon as I was settled I heard clicking coming down the hall, Nina and Sage appeared in my doorway a few moments later. Sage still wore the same smile on her face, but Nina looked furious. I stood and motioned to the guest chairs as I moved to close the office door, we didn’t need any human ears over-hearing this conversation. I moved back to my side of the desk and sat down in the chair. I looked at both of their expectant faces and took a deep breath, “I want to apologize to you both. I thought it best to have your first reaction to the accusations be on the record. I hope you both can forgive me, for my choice to withhold information from the two of you.” Sage just looked confused, but Nina’s expression softened, “Do you want to tell us what exactly is going on now?” I nodded, “I assume you are both aware of the accusations?” I asked, pausing to give them a chance to respond. Nina nodded, but Sage shook her head and had a nervous smirk on her face, so I waited. She cleared her throat, “Actually I kind of yelled at the Elder before he got a chance to ask any real questions. So, no, I don’t know what the accusations are.” I tried and failed to swallow a chuckle, but Nina was nearly crying with laughter, “I knew you were a badass Sage. Damn, I wish I would’ve gone that route, I sat there and answered all his stupid questions. What I’ve gathered is that a set of wolves have lodged complaints with the Elder Council, citing physical abuse, substance abuse, and paternity concerns –“ Anything else she would’ve said was cut off by a deep growl from Sage. She slapped a hand over her mouth and looked around hoping no one in the cubicles outside of the office heard her. “Damn. Did you do that in front of the Elder?” was Nina’s response, clearly impressed. She looked embarrassed, “Umm. Yeah, kind of.” I hid my smile with a hand and listened to each of them go over their interviews with me. By the end of the play-by-play, I was beyond furious at the approach these Elders were taking with my pack like they are harboring a fugitive and covering up abuse, but I was also full of pride. These girls weren’t just friends, they were my big sisters and they loved me as I loved them. With them by my side I know I’ll get through this. I stood up from my desk as we prepared to leave for the lunch meeting with Chef Michaelson, but before we left the office I pulled them both into a hug. The hug clearly surprised them both, but after a moment they both relaxed and returned the hug. I didn’t say anything, but I knew they could feel the love and gratitude I had for them both. Eldrick I was sitting at my desk pouring over a few of the files when there was a knock at the door. “Come in,” I said closing the file. The door opened and Blair stepped in, “Ahh Blair, come in. I assume your visit is because you had a similar interview to the one I just had and realized we need to go about this differently?” He sighed and nodded his head, “Yes. Everything about the way Ms. Green handled our arrival and the investigation tells me that this pack was raised to be respectful to us, but that interview was anything but respectful. I’d like to think that it was simply her protecting ‘her Luna’, as she put it, and not meant as disrespect.” I was surprised, to say the least, “Ms. Adams was very respectful, but there was definitely a defensive tone to her answers. She didn’t take kindly to ‘their Luna-to-be’, as she put it, being accused.” My statement put a smirk on his face, “That’s exactly the phrase Ms. Peterson used when she warned me about talking to the warriors. S–“ His words were interrupted by the office phone ringing. I reached over to pick up the phone and pulled the receiver to my ear, “this is Elder Eldrick.” “Hello, Elder Eldrick.” Came the soft voice of Ms. Green, “I just got done speaking to Ms. Adams and Ms. Peterson. I was hoping you could spare a moment to speak with me?” “Of course, Ms. Green.” I said looking at Blair, “I have Elder Blair here with me, let me put you on speaker.” She waited a moment before she spoke, giving me time to put her on speaker, “Hello Elder Blair, as I told Elder Eldrick, I just finished speaking with Ms. Adams and Ms. Peterson and wanted to speak to you both. I want to first apologize for any disrespect you have been shown, every member of this pack from the Omegas to the Alpha has great respect for the Elders and the Elder Council. Ms. Peterson is like a sister to me, her words were merely in defense of me, I know that she did not mean to be disrespectful. I’d like to remind you that the pack does not know anything about the accusations and what you experienced from Ms. Peterson and Ms. Adams was the anger at the accusations, not anger at your investigation. I expect that you’ll get the same reaction from the rest of the pack and if you need my help to avoid any further push back, you need only ask.” I nodded my head, contemplating her words, “Yes, we were just discussing a different approach to the investigation. While the bonds you share with your people are admirable, it would certainly benefit the investigation if we could avoid any further resistance.” I explained as I came up with a new plan. “Of course Elder Eldrick, what do you have in mind?”, she asked her voice still calm. “Could you arrange a pack meeting for tonight? Speak to the pack about the accusations and the investigation, we’ll come and see the reaction of the pack all at once. Then, hopefully, once they see you’re cooperating they’ll follow suit.” I looked at Blair as I spoke looking for any sign of doubt from him about the idea, but he nodded in agreement. “Of course, I’ll make the arrangements. We’ll have a pack meeting at 6 pm tonight, to avoid interrupting anyone’s workday. Then you can resume interviews in the morning, does that work?” “Yes, that’ll be fine.” I agreed “I will see you, gentlemen, tonight at dinner, it’s served in the dining room on the first floor at 5 pm, we can travel to the meeting together. I assure you the pack will be nothing but respectful moving forward, they will cooperate with your investigation, I’ll make sure of it.”, her tone was calm and confident and I had to admit, I was impressed with her composure throughout this process. “Thank you, Luna, for your assistance.” I ended the call and looked over to Blair who also looked impressed, “She is either a master manipulator or these accusations are false.” Was his immediate response. I nodded, “I had the same thought.”
