“I’d prepare myself, if I were you,” Lilah said when Walker came loping down the stairs two at a time, boots making dull thumps with every bound. One of these days, he was going to have to get around to replacing all of the stairs in the place. It was a miracle none of them had given out yet, considering the state they were in. Just, the idea of having to carve and cut everything by hand… bringing down the trees, sawing the slabs and the brackets. It was a lot. The thought alone was enough to make him feel drained right down to his bones. He knew from experience that it would take several days to make even one set of stairs.
