Meriwa had no idea if Walker overheard the vile things that Jackson was whispering hotly in her ear, but he looked done with everything. Not angry, as she would have thought given Jackson’s possessiveness of the pack and the land that belonged to Walker, but resigned. Tired. As though he’d seen this coming long before it happened. He shuffled close enough that she could see the tight creases around his eyes. His voice was low when he spoke, as if he didn’t want anyone else eavesdropping on what he was saying. “Let her go, Jackson. You’re not doing anyone any favors with this.” It didn’t matter; they all heard anyway. Why didn’t he send them away? Letting them see a battle of wills like this was only going to make him look weak. She knew it. And, more importantly, Jackson knew it.
