“There must be something I can help with,” Meriwa insisted, jumping around the female in an attempt to stop her from walking away or point blank ignoring her, for that matter. Meriwa nodded at the laden basket of clothes she carried. “What about that? I can take it downstairs and put it in—” What were those machines called again? Had Walker told her? Whatever they were called, it couldn’t be that difficult to work them. Walker had said something about putting the clothes in the silver belly to wash them. Maybe that’s all there was to it: you just had to put the clothes inside, leave them there for the water to come in, and wait for the belly to start spinning. Right?
