Meriwa tossed and turned the whole night long, her mind replaying her intimate conversation with Walker over and over again. She’d only meant to thank him for the shells and the bandages but, somehow, it had devolved into them tentatively sharing a little about their lives.
More his than hers, perhaps, but it was possibly the first time that she’d acknowledged the loss of her twin out loud. It had been sad but freeing, oddly enough. The fact that Walker had been through something very similar – albeit Meriwa couldn’t imagine losing so much of her family in one fell swoop – helped.
A little.
As much as sharing could, anyway. She wasn’t sure loss was something a person ever truly got over.
