It’s the necklace that does it.
That necklace makes all my efforts to hide everything come crashing down before me. I have to admit, I knew I would eventually have to face the unpleasant realities that I had been hiding away, but still, even so, I kept assuring myself that I wouldn’t need to do that. I believed it was possible to ‘act’ this out, that I could wear the disguise and avoid getting too close. But the sight of that necklace… it removes every barrier that exists.
I should have returned it earlier. I should have done it when I had the chance. But life doesn’t work that way, does it? Life surprises you when you least expect it and makes you face your problems, whether you're ready or not.
