Broken ring

Inside the lift. Henrique looked at the ring in his hand with a look of regret in his eyes. Although he had expected it, he was still not able to be happy when the marriage ended. He had thought that happiness was simple: three meals a day, nothing more than a simple life and happiness. Now he realises. It turned out that being ordinary was also a sin. After three years of intoxication in the land of tenderness, now, it was time to wake up. *The bell rings* The phone suddenly rang as he was lost in thought. Upon answering it, a familiar voice came over. "Henrique, this is Adrian. I heard that today is your and Portia's wedding anniversary. I have prepared a special gift. I wonder when you have time?" Adrian LP, the chairman of the LP group "Thank you for the kindness of the LP group, but none of that will be necessary in the future," Henrique said lightly. "Emm?" Adrian was slightly startled. Vaguely, he smelt a hint of something unusual. "Is there anything else?" Henrique digressed. "Ahem. ...... There is indeed one more thing to trouble you with." Adrian coughed lightly in embarrassment, "I have a friend who is suffering from a strange illness and has been treated by many famous doctors, so I hope Henrique can help." "Adrian, you should know my rules." "Of course! I wouldn't have dared to come to you if I hadn't been sincere. To tell you the truth, my good friend has an impressionist work from the 1870s at home, and if you are willing to help, this work is the payment." Adrian said. "Is that true?" Henrique's expression straightened. "100 percent!" "Good, if that's true, then I'll be there." Henrique immediately agreed. He had no interest in money, jewellery or anything else. But the paintings of the 19th century Impressionists were the things he dreamed of. Because there was the secret he was looking for! "Thanks Henrique, I'll send someone and get you right away!" Adrian smiled with relief. As one of the three giant investment groups of Manhattan, the chairman of the LP group, he was so cautious in front of Henrique at the moment ...... "Hopefully I will find what I need this time." Henrique muttered. The gloomy mood he had just felt was finally eased a little. At that moment, the lift doors opened. Henrique had just stepped out of the office when he saw two familiar people coming up to him. One was Portia's mother, Carol. The other, her brother Marvin. "Mum, Marvin, what brings you here?" Henrique was the first to greet. "You and Portia, you're divorced?" Carol was straight to the point as soon as she saw Henrique. "Yes." Henrique forced a smile, "This has nothing to do with Portia, it's all me, you shouldn't blame her." His intention was to get along well, but to his surprise, Carol snorted, "Of course it's your problem! I know my daughter very well. If you hadn't done something wrong to her, how would she want a divorce?!" "Emm?" Henrique was stunned, a little unprepared to react. This is ...... an evil complaint? "Mum, you should have seen exactly what I have done in the past three years, and I ask myself, I did't do anything wrong in any way," Henrique said. "Humph! Who knows what you have done? It is right to divorce with you anyway! Look at your virtue, how can you be worthy of my daughter?" Carol bristled. "Mum, isn't that too much to ask?" Henrique frowned slightly. How could Portia be where she was today if he hadn't helped her three years ago? "Excessive? So what? Am I not telling the truth?" Carol clasped her arms. "Come on Mum! Cut the crap with him!" At that moment, Marvin next to her suddenly stepped forward, "Henrique! I don't care about your divorce, but that money, you must hand it over!" "Money? What do you mean?" Henrique looked puzzled. "Don't you pretend you don't know! I do know that my sister has promised you eight million as a break-up fee!" Marvin said in a cold voice. "That's right! That's my daughter's money. Who are you to take it? Just hand it over!" Carol reached out her hand as if to demand it. "I don't receive any of the eight million." Henrique denied. "Bullshit! Who wouldn't take $8 million? Do you think we're stupid?" Marvin didn't believe him. "Henrique, if you know exactly what you're doing, you'd better hand over the money or I won't mind calling security!" Carol warned. "If you don't believe me, you can call Portia now." Henrique didn't bother to explain. "What? You're threatening us? I'm telling you, no matter who pleads for mercy today, you'll have to leave without taking any property after divorce and not take a penny with you!" Carol said viciously. "Mum! Since he doesn't understand any better, let's search for ourselves!" Marvin was impatient and went to search straight through Henrique's pockets. Carol, not to be outdone, followed suit. "Mom, did we have to end up with this?" Henrique frowned. He really hadn't expected Portia's family to be so aggressive when they had only just signed the divorce. These dialogues were unsparing in its clinical condemnation of his "failure". "Shut up! Who's your mother? Don't you dare call me that again! What kind of status are you in today? You're not worthy of speaking to us!" Carol had a disgusted look on her face. As she spoke, she didn't stop moving at all. After searching for a while, the two of them couldn't find anything. "What the hell, did this guy really not ask for money?" Marvin was a little resigned. At that moment, out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly saw the ring on Henrique's hand and swiftly ripped it off . "Isn't this the antique ring which my sister was wearing? How come it's here with you? Did you steal it?!" Marvin looked puzzled. "It's my family heirloom, give it back to me!" Henrique's face sank. He could leave without a penny, but his mother's heirloom, he had to get it back! "An heirloom? So, it's worth a lot of money?" Marvin's eyes lit up. "Henrique! You've been freeloading in my house for three years. Take this ring as an interest and let's go!" Carol gave a wink and was ready to leave with her son. "Stop!" Henrique grabbed Marvin's wrist and said in a deep voice, "Give me back the ring!" "Ahh~ Ouch Ouch! Let go of your f*****g hand!" Marvin felt as if his wrist was about to be crushed. "Give it back!" Henrique said in one word. "f**k! I'm not giving it to you even if I throw it away!" Seeing that he couldn't break free from his shackles, Marvin was also furious and slammed the ring down hard on the ground. "Pop!" A crunching sound was heard. The ring broke into pieces on the ground. At the sight of this, Henrique was struck by lightning and his face turned white. This was his mother's remains! It was the only thing he ever had from his mother! "How dare you do it to me? It's all over!" Marvin flung his wrist and cursed. "Click, click, click ......" Henrique's fists slowly clenched, his finger bones crackling. Those icy eyes were red and bloodshot. "Bastard!" Henrique finally relented and slapped Marvin hard across the face. *smack* Marvin was spun around twice in the air and then fell heavily to the ground. He was so dizzy that he couldn't even stand up. "Uneducated thing! Since your mother doesn't know how to teach you, I'll do that for her!" Henrique grabbed Marvin by the hair and lifted him up, then slapped him across the face with a resounding slap. *smack* With a crunching sound, Marvin was soon bruised and bleeding from his mouth and teeth. "You--you dare to hit my son? That won't happen!" Carol screamed, and was ready to go up to help. "Go away!" Henrique turned around with a glare. The scarlet, demon-like look in his eyes scared Carol into immobility.
