Chapter 4

"Looks like you've had a bit too much to drink," the man took a step back, his gaze flickering. "Tonight can just be about tonight..." Avani's smile didn't falter, but her tone was serious. "We don't even have to know each other's names." The man hesitated for a moment, then shook his head. "Don't you want to?" Seeing that he didn't seem to be playing hard to get, Avani felt a bit disappointed. The vibe tonight was great, and they were getting along well. Why would he refuse? But even after she said that, struggling to maintain her smile, the man still didn't give her a clear answer, just that frustrating silence. "Do you have a girlfriend?" Avani pondered, feeling like that was the only possibility. Maybe he's one of those rare faithful guys? "No." The man's answer was straightforward, but it sent a chill down Avani's spine. If he didn't have a girlfriend and still firmly rejected her, then there was only one reason left. "You're..." She gasped, finding it hard to believe. "You have a boyfriend, don't you?" The man furrowed his brows tightly, his face turning pale. He never expected to be questioned about his sexuality, especially by a stranger he just met. Seeing his frustrated expression, Avani felt her guess was right. She sighed regretfully and muttered, "If you like men, just say it, don't waste my time." And my cousin's money. !? In an instant, a layer of frost formed in the man's eyes. He stepped forward, staring at her coldly, and said in a firm voice, "I don't." Hearing his decisive answer, Avani was completely puzzled and didn't want to know anymore. She muttered an "oh", turned, and tried to leave. Thinking she still didn't believe him, the man followed, pressing her against the piano. He gazed into her seductive eyes and those tempting red lips, feeling a sudden urge inside him. This woman was truly a seductress. "You...?" Before he could voice his question, an unexpected kiss froze time. The man's cool lips pressed against hers, and she widened her eyes, wanting to observe his expression up close. But because of this sudden 'attack', her heart was in turmoil, and all she could see clearly were his trembling eyelashes. As his warm hand gently caressed his back and a pair of soft mounds pressed against his chest, he felt himself melting. A flame ignited in his chest, almost making him lose control. Thud, thud, thud... Suddenly, the antique clock in the living room made a dull sound, indicating it was midnight. The man abruptly opened his eyes, as if waking from a dream. He pushed Avani away, trying to regain his composure, and stepped back, leaning on the piano, breathing heavily. "This... do you believe me now?" However, while he was sobering up, Avani felt like she was ignited, feeling uncomfortable all over. She didn't have the energy to communicate with him anymore. She reached out to grab his collar, wanting to undo the remaining buttons, but he quickly stopped her, not giving her a chance for the next step. "Sorry, I have to go." "Go?" Avani couldn't believe her ears. Was this the same person who had just kissed her forcefully? "My curfew is midnight." Fortunately, the clock reminded him. "It's midnight and you have to go home, are you Cinderella?" Avani was both angry and amused. She couldn't care less about being reserved now and asked straightforwardly, "Or do I need to give you a clock extension?" "Sorry." The man apologized, bowing his head. Being teased like this by a stranger, anyone would feel embarrassed, but he couldn't blame anyone but himself for this. "So what..." Avani raised her head high, pointing to the lipstick smudged on his lips, "does this mean?" "It was just... a moment of impulse." Although he had only wanted to explain to her just now, he couldn't control himself... "Then why not be impulsive to the end?" Someone who could stop at will in such a situation was truly ruthless. "..." The man stood silently in place, as if he had lost connection with the outside world. Now, Avani was thoroughly annoyed. Although they had only known each other for three hours, she was already fed up with this unpredictable guy who had nothing but looks and no fun. It was really disappointing! "Get out." She pointed to the door, ruthlessly giving him the boot. He knew she was resisting him at the moment and didn't try to explain anything further. Slowly walking to the hallway, he grabbed the doorknob. "Then... goodbye." As he pushed open the door, he never thought such an episode would happen tonight. Now that everything was over, he felt some strange emotions stirring inside him, forcing him to care. "I'm Manny." He turned back to look at her. His real name was Mateo, but he changed it to Manny as an adult because he preferred it. Avani's eyes flashed with surprise, unable to understand why he would introduce himself right before parting. "So what? What does it have to do with me?" Clearly, she didn't want to know anything about him anymore. "How should I address you?" "I'm not telling you!" She crossed her arms in resistance. Fine. Although Manny didn't say it, Avani could read the word from his dim eyes. She didn't look at him anymore, turning back to sit at the piano, lifting the glass. Only melted ice remained, the alcohol was gone. Bang! The door closed. Avani looked around the empty room, feeling a bit fuzzy. If it weren't for the rose petals on the carpet already scattered, she might have thought no one had ever been here. She staggered back to the bedroom, loosened her straps, let her dress slide off, then plunged into the soft bed, not wanting to think about anything anymore. The curtains in the room were half closed, revealing a half moon. Unfortunately, no matter how beautiful the night was tonight, she was destined to be alone.
