James This meeting was an absolute shambles. Blue moon had never experienced anything like this before, and we hadn’t had any threat other than rogues in decades. None of it made any sense, who had a vendetta against us? Was this all because of her? Were they that set on having her that they were determined to take down our whole pack to get to her? No matter what they did, I would defend her with my life, no harm would come to her. They would have to go through me to get to her. “Dad what do you mean? What do they know?” Mason questioned me as I realised I had spoken out loud. I sat in silence, not knowing what to say. They couldn’t know the truth, not yet. We had managed to keep this secret for 18 years and it wasn’t time yet for anyone to know. “We need to tighten patrols. I want to double the men we have on patrol, your mothers old pack will need training as soon as they arrive. We need their help with patrol in a week at the latest” I ordered avoiding my sons question. This was something he didn’t need to know about, not yet. All I knew was that my pack was under a huge threat and we needed to get this under control - now. I couldn’t have them getting too close, if that happened it was all over. “Yes of course” Mason replied, looking at me with confusion. “But dad” “This needs to be our priority. I want you to gather all of our warriors this evening before dinner, we have a lot to discuss. They need to be informed of the upcoming changes, we need everybody on board” I interrupted him. I couldn’t have him asking too many questions, I had already given away too much. What still didn’t make sense to me is why the gremlins were involved. We had lived in peace with them for centuries and had never had a problem with them. God we had even helped them rebuild when they suffered that terrible loss years ago. Why they would turn against us now was a huge question burning into my mind. “Hudson, you need to go to the infirmary and get those wounds looked at. If my suspicions are right they’ve used wolfsbane on you just like they did on Logan meaning they’re not going to heal without help” I instructed the boy who looked worse for wear. He was still bleeding out of the wounds on his arm and I could see he was in pain. It was concerning that they were using wolfsbane on my men, it meant that we were at greater risk than ever before. If Hudson looked this bad and was still standing, I didn’t even want to think about what Miles looked like. “I’m okay, really alpha” he tried to assure me but it was blatant to see that he was far from okay. “No boy you go to the infirmary now” I ordered using my authoritative tone to get him to listen to me. “Roman, go with him to make sure that he does what he’s told. Mason go with them and get me an update on Miles” I instructed. If my gut instinct was right then Miles was in trouble. “Once you’ve got an update, speak with his family and his mate.” Both boys nodded their head to say they would follow my orders but didn’t move. “Well, get going then” I ordered. Roman grabbed Hudson’s good arm to guide him out of my office, but Mason stood still waiting for the two to leave the room to speak. “Dad what’s going on?” He pushed me. My boy needed to learn when to let things slide, I wasn’t going to budge on this. “Mason it’s nothing you need to know about. Just trust me okay?” I said, needing my son to listen and leave. “Fine but” “no buts Mason, go do what I’ve asked you to do. I’m still alpha” I reminded him, knowing he would have no choice but to listen. “Yes sir” he groaned before leaving the room. “Calliope are you with Lily?” I mind linked my wife, knowing that I needed to speak with her. “Yes, why what’s going on? We just heard about the rogue attack” She asked with concern. “Find a reason to excuse yourself but don’t leave her alone. Come to my office when you can.” - I sat at my desk with my face in my hands when I heard my office door open. Looking up I saw my mate walking in, confusion all over her face. “What’s going on James?” She questioned me as she walked towards me. “Cal, sit down this is serious” I told her and took a deep breath. I knew how pissed she would be about this and how scared she would be. We had all worked so hard for so many years to keep this a secret and now it threatened to blow up in our face. There was going to be no easy way to tell her what I needed to say. She took a seat on the other side of my desk, her eyebrows arched. I hated to see my beautiful mate like this, I only ever wanted her to feel happiness. This was going to bring her anything but. “Someone knows.” Rip the band aid off I guess. I knew how distraught she would be at this, how much this would put us at risk. Everything we had worked so hard to protect could come crashing down on us at any minute. “How could they? No, it’s not possible” Calliope choked in shock. At least she knew why Lily couldn’t know what was going on now. “I don’t know. I have no idea how anyone could know. After everything we’ve done and it still wasn’t enough” I sighed, still in shock at what was going on. “Well who is it?” She questioned me now. “I wish I knew, but I don’t. All I know is someone knows and we’re in trouble” I admitted gravely to my wife. We weren’t just in trouble, we were in massive danger now that this was out. “So what are we going to do James?” That was a good question, a question that I had no answer to right now. “First of all we need to make sure Lily doesn’t find out about this. That’s all that I need you to focus on” I told my wife, not wanting her to think about anything else. I didn’t want any of this to be on her, but I knew she felt the need to help and this was the best way how. “Of course” she agreed, knowing exactly what I was thinking. Keep her away from anything that could potentially be dangerous. “I think it’s time James” she continued grabbing hold of my hands. “Yes my love, it’s time” I agreed, knowing there was no avoiding it any longer. Logan I was really starting to feel like a prisoner now, trapped in this room. I’d been stuck in here for over 24 hours, with no human contact apart from the awful incident with Esme last night. All I could do was sit in my thoughts and every single one of them was about her. I wanted to go to her, to see her and try to fix things between us. She had been so angry, so hurt last night and there was nothing I could do or say to make that right. She couldn’t know the truth about being my mate, it would be too much for her. There was also the fact that she didn’t feel the mate bond and might never feel it. I didn’t want her to feel obliged to be with me if she found out, which I knew she might. I threw my phone onto my bed and let out a sigh in frustration. Last night she was right where I had wanted her for so long and I turned her away, rejected her. I couldn’t say that I didn’t understand her hurt, of course I did after the constant rejection I had received from her. It was something I needed to fix and I needed to do it soon. “Logan do you have a minute?” my fathers voice spilled through my head. “Sure, you’ll have to come to me though seeing as you’re holding me hostage in this room” i jibed, still annoyed with him for agreeing to this. I was fully recovered from my injuries and was pretty sure the wolfsbane would be out of my system by now which meant I should be able to go home to my pack. My pack that needed me. My pack that relied on me as their alpha to lead them. My father knocked on the door but didn’t bother to wait for a response before letting himself in. As I caught sight of him I could see that something was bothering him. “What’s up dad?” I asked with concern. It was very rare to see him like this. “How are you feeling?” He avoided my question and I knew it was going to be something that I wasn’t going to like. “I’m fine dad, in fact I’m well enough to go home if you’d just let me. But that’s not why you came here, so talk” I demanded. We could go around in circles all day, my father was good at that when it came to something he didn’t want to talk about. He made his way towards my bed and took a seat on the edge. “Logan, I know that you’ve been lying about not finding your mate” he told me as I gasped at him in shock. How could he possibly know? Unless.. “how long have you known” I asked, realising my secret was out. “Oh Logan” he laughed “I’ve known since the day you turned 18. You completely changed around Esme that day and I’ve seen the way you look at her, like you would kill for her. It’s clear to see the love you have for her when the two of you are together” he confessed, putting his hand on my leg. So he had known this whole time. “Does mum know?” I asked. My father nodded his head. “That’s why I’m here Logan” he told me, his voice sounding less cheerful than it had been just seconds ago. “I have to admit I was relieved when I realised she was your mate. As much as I love your brother, he was never going to be right for her.” What did he mean? How could he say that about his own son and what made me so special that made him think I was good enough? “Logan I can basically see your mind spinning, so let me explain. Esme, she’s different to other werewolves, she’s special. You see Lily isn’t a werewolf.” Lily wasn’t a werewolf? “Well, what is she then?” Now I thought about it I had never seen Lily shift and I’d never tried to mind link her so how would I of known? “Lily is a witch. It’s rare for werewolves to mate with anyone outside of their species, but Samson and Lily did. That’s why Lily has been so affected by his death. The sever of the mate bond is extremely traumatic for us but for a witch, it can kill them. Lily is lucky to be alive right now, but we don’t know how long that will last. When Samson died, Lily lost all of her power. You know what happens when a witch loses her power” he told me. Did this mean Lily was going to die? I had heard stories of witches who had been stripped of their power, each one ending the same. Death. “Does Esme know?” I realised that the answer was probably no. As I suspected my father confirmed this when he shook his head. “As far as Esme knows, Lily is a werewolf just like her father was. Now I don’t know why Esme doesn’t feel the mate bond between the two of you, I wish I could help. Right now what I’m about to tell you is more important” he started before pausing. “Logan, Esme isn’t a werewolf either” he told me, but the words didn’t make sense in my head. How could Esme not be a werewolf? I had mind linked her just a few days ago, I had seen her wolf. He had to be lying. “I’ve seen her shift, she’s a werewolf” I insisted. My father rolled his eyes at me. “Of course she is part werewolf. Esme is a hybrid. Half werewolf half witch” he chuckled at my expense. “Now I need you to listen to me carefully” he instructed me looking serious now. “Go on” I replied, showing that I was paying attention. My father took a deep breath as he prepared to fill me in. “Esme is one of the only ones of her kind. Most hybrids were hunted down and killed decades ago meaning there are far and few between. Theo is lucky that he is pure werewolf, Lilys specific bloodline means that magic only passes down to females. Esme however, is probably the most powerful hybrid to have ever existed. She just doesn’t know it yet.” Doesn’t know it yet? How could someone not know they are the most powerful being to ever walk the earth? “Now I know you have questions but they will have to wait. Your mate is in danger.” I growled at my fathers words, my protective instinct over Esme kicking in. Who the f**k wanted to hurt my mate? I would kill them without a second thought, I didn’t care who they were. “What do you mean she’s in danger?” I snapped at my father, caught up in my anger at what he had told me. “I don’t know. All I know is someone is coming for her and they’re willing to take down the entire pack to get to her. As her mate, you needed to know.” My entire body was filled with fear at this revelation. It was all too much to take in. My wolf was practically screaming at me to get our mate, get her out of here and take her far away where nobody could ever find her. I had to keep a cool head about this, otherwise I could end up putting her in even more danger and that was the last thing that I wanted. “Thankyou for telling me, but what am I supposed to do with this? I can’t kill them if I don’t even know who they are” I sighed. “No killing anyone. I need you to protect Esme, nobody is going to protect her better than her mate.” He was right, there was nobody in this world that would protect her like I would. “How am I supposed to protect her from 2 hours away?” I questioned, realising the problem with this. If anything happened to her, she could be dead by the time I was able to get here once I rejoined my pack. There was no way she would come with me. “Bring your pack here. We need the man power more than ever and we have the space. We will need a few days to get ourselves prepared for them, but they can stay in the old pack house that we no longer use” he suggested, as he stood up from my bed. That wasn’t such a bad idea, it made sense and it meant I could stay close to my mate without neglecting my pack. I’d just need to check with my beta to see what his thoughts were. I didn’t want to do anything that wasn’t in my packs best interests. “Okay, I’ll speak to Jack and if we decide to I will get them here first thing Monday does that work?” I asked, relieved that I had a solution to most of my problems. “Just not the most important issue of someone trying to hurt mate” Garrison growled. “Patience Garrison, trust me we will get whoever wants to hurt her” I assured him attempting to calm him down. The last thing I needed was him getting riled up right now and coming to the surface. “That’s perfect. I’ll make sure we get everything arranged. I’ve got to go get ready for a pack meeting” he said as he walked towards the door before turning around. “Oh Logan one more thing. Do not breathe a word of anything I’ve told you to anyone, especially not Esme!”
