THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM

1471 Words
Mason I had barely seen Esme over the last few days with my mother dragging her around party planning. The truth was I wouldn’t mind just spending the night with Esme rather than having some big party, but our mothers would not hear of it. We would not have the chance to see each other before the party tomorrow as my father wanted to spend the morning discussing the changes that would be coming for me as I was soon to take over as alpha, and as soon as I found my mate that is exactly what I would be expected to do within a month. So we were getting in one last training session this afternoon before her friend Blaire arrived. I really hoped she did not take up much of Esme’s attention while she was here, I will want her all to myself once we become mates. I watched her throw her hair up as she strutted towards me with a smile on her face. “Ready for a beat down” she said, sounding sure of herself. “Oh come on, we both know you can’t challenge me. I will always win!” I shot back. “Oh really, scared to lose? it could be our last session before we find our mates so why don’t we stop talking and start fighting!” She challenged me. I loved how competitive she could be, but I also knew she knows there’s no way she is stronger than me. Esme launched towards me as I dodged her attempts, and ended up on the floor. She looked up towards me, where I stood laughing, and pouted. “Awh, are you going to cry E? You know you can’t beat me” I tormented, knowing it would only rile her up. “I was just getting warmed up” she claimed as she was getting to her feet and approaching me again. We were interrupted when Lily approached the training grounds. “Esme, guess who’s here!” She grinned. Esme didn't hesitate. “Sorry Mas, looks like we will have to have a rain check on your take down! I’ll see you tomorrow?” Esme questioned, lookng back at me as she was already walking towards the pack house with Lily. “Yeah, see you tomorrow!” I shouted after her, but I doubted she heard me as she was already running. Now I just had to hope that the next time I saw her she would be mine. Esme “Esme!” Her voice came from the other side of the room. “Blaire, it’s so good to see you” I exclaimed, as I embraced my friend. It felt so good to see her after such a long time. I turned to see my mother had already departed towards the kitchen. “Your pack house is so big! How much room do you guys need?” Blaire joked as she looked around, admiring her surroundings. “What this? It’s nothing” I winked as I guided her towards the stairs. “Anyway, let me show you your room, I think you will approve” I beamed, happy that I could finally show her my home. She nodded her head in agreement, and followed me up the stairs to the guest floor. I pushed open the door, standing aside to let Blaire walk through and take in her surroundings. “Wow” she gushed as she circled the room. “This is amazing, can I just stay forever?” She joked, clearly impressed with her accommodation. She took a seat on the edge of the bed, and patted the space next to her, motioning for me to join her. “So E, how does it feel to know tomorrow you may find your mate?” she questioned me. “Honestly Blaire, I think I’ve already met him. I know I can’t be sure but the way I feel, I just know it” I stated, as I watched her excitement grow. I loved how happy she was for me, especially considering she was yet to find her mate despite turning 18 four months ago. “Let me guess, Mason?” She quizzed, as she raised her eyebrow. I nodded my head to confirm her suspicions, as Blaire now stood up to approach the window and open the curtains. “This place is just breathtaking, shall we go for a run?” Blaire begged. Honestly, a run sounded great right now, I hadn’t been able to let off all my steam in training today due to it being cut short. “Let’s go.” Blaire I woke up to Esme barrelling through my bedroom door, a bundle of nerves. I couldn’t help but envy her, she was already pretty certain on who her mate was and would know by tonight. I on the other hand, had been waiting for over four months now. My 18th birthday had come and gone, but still no sign of my mate and I was beginning to question if he existed. Some people had to wait years to find their mate but I had already grown impatient after a matter of months. I didn’t know how they did it and I hoped that I wouldn’t have to. I had to pull myself together and make this day special for Esme though. After all, she deserved it and I should make the best of the time I had with her. I don’t know how I had convinced father to let me come here in the first place, but I wasn’t about to take it for granted. “Which one?” She asked standing at the end of the bed holding up three dresses. “They’re all beautiful, but I definitely think this one is the winner” I answered, pointing towards the baby blue dress. Esme would look good in anything, with her perfect frame with curves in all the right places. All the boys had fallen head over heels for her at summer camp, but she had been oblivious. Of course she only had eyes for Mason. She had spent so long hung up on him, I prayed he was her mate. I couldn’t wait to meet the guy who had her wrapped around his finger. “Hmm, you sure?” She contemplated, now holding the dresses in front of her so she could get a good look. “Yes, I’m sure! Now let’s go meet your mother she wanted to give you your present” I urged, pulling myself out of bed. “Okay, I guess” she begrudgingly agreed placing the dresses down. Mason It had been a long day of father speaking at me and I was eager for it to be over. “Right, Mason go get yourself ready before your mother has my head” he joked. He didn’t need to tell me twice. One hour. That’s all I had left until I would know. I nodded my head, and made a break out of his office. “Oh and son” he chimed in as I opened the door? “Yeah dad” I responded. “Go get her” he winked. I knew he was talking about Esme, and it brought a smile to my face. I continued my way out the door, and bounded up the stairs to my room. I tore my clothes off and jumped in the shower as I played the night out in my head. Half an hour I thought to myself as I dried myself down and made an attempt to style my hair. My thoughts were interrupted as there was a knock on my door, and Roman barged in. “You ready for the moment of truth?” He asked as he approached me. “Put some clothes on, just because you’re going to be alpha it doesn’t mean you need to show everyone your body” he added with a smirk on his face. I realised I was still in my towel and motioned for him to turn around so I could dress myself. “Maybe you shouldn’t barge into peoples rooms then that wouldn’t happen” I laughed as I pulled my shirt over my head. “Fair enough, I was just coming to tell you it’s time to go” he responded. I did a final check in the mirror and followed Roman out of the door. We walked down the stairs in silence, as we both realised what was about to happen. “Good luck man, I hope it works out how you want it to” Roman chimed, pushing open the doors. As we walked into the room I felt the gravity pulling me and eyed the room until I finally laid my eyes on her. Well s**t.
