Well today is the day, eviction day, I have all of my most prized possessions in one very large box sitting by the front door, I really don’t know what I am supposed to do now. I Finnish clearing away my laptop when my phone rings making me jump, I don’t get phone calls ever, so I answer with a small voice. “Hello” there is a short pause. “Is this Demi Monroe” asks the lady on the other end, she seems kind and I’m instantly put at ease. “Yes this is she “ I sound so posh I congratulate myself for having manners. “My name is Miss Walker and I work for Lady Jeffries”, oh my lord, my heart rate just spiked and I think I may faint. “ she asked me to give you a call regarding some work she has set up for you, and she has asked if you can come to the Peter Jeffries building today at 10am” This is it, this is where things finally fall into place, where I finally get to do something I love. “Yes I can make 10am” I reply trying to calm my nerves. “Fantastic, we will see you then”, she tells me to check in at the front desk and I will be given a visitors badge. I must dress to impress, oh lord where are all my good clothes, which suitcase did i put them in. After half an hour of trying on different dresses, skirts and pants, I settle for a black pencil skirt that ends just past my knees, and a white blouse that has ruffles down the front covering the buttons, its one of my favourites, and on me feet I choose my little NYC Henley boots, with their chunky wood cut heels, i put my long brown hair up in a bun and apply some mascara, my cheeks look constantly flushed so no need for any other make up. The building is so tall as i stand before it, I suddenly feel very small, but at the same time important. I make my was to the huge reception desk where a middle aged lady is talking on the phone, she sees me and holds up one finger as if to say please hold. This place is amazing, everywhere looks so modern yet comfortable, there are various seats and tables spread out with Plant after plant dotted around, its like the outdoor has come inside. The lady puts down the phone and looks at me with a warm smile. “How may I help you” she asks with a gentle tone. “Miss Monroe to see a Miss Walker” I Make myself sound so confident, what has gotten into me today. The lady behind the desk hands me a visitors badge and tells me to enter the elevator on the left and head up to the top floor. I thank her and walk towards the elevator placing my badge on my blouse as i go. The elevator takes me to the top floor in a matter of minutes, I step out into what would seem to be a home from home, everyone is dressed casually and one man walks past with no shoes on. I find the reception and am greeted by a very pretty blonde holding a mug of what looks like tea. “Welcome to the Peter Jeffries building and to the Aiden Jeffries floor” she smiles so brightly it’s infectious. “Is everyone always this happy” I ask, because I’m pretty sure people should not be this happy all the time. She gives a small laugh,“well when you get to work in one of the coolest buildings in town, then yes I would say everyone is always this happy” she laughs again making me laugh with her. “Take a seat over there Miss Monroe” she points to the chairs behind me, I smile and take a seat. How did she know who I was, I never told her my name. After a few minutes another door opens and out steps what can only be described as a s*x god, I mean pure s*x on legs, like holy s**t this man is gorgeous. “Miss Monroe”, the way he says my name has me squeezing my legs together. I simply stare at him staring at me, its like the world has disappeared. “Miss Monroe” he coughs waking me from my trance. “ oh yes that’s me” I say and Stumble when I stand making myself look like a fool. He holds out his hand to me and I shake it quite violently, again I’m not normally like this, but he has my head in a spin. “ please come in” he holds out his hand to show me the way. We walk into a very large room with windows that curve around one corner, he has a large desk in front of the window, with a large black leather chair, there is a bigger table on the left hand side with at least 14 chairs around it, that must be the meeting room, well of course it is you Wally, I now proceed to argue with myself in my head. “Please have a seat Miss Monroe” he points to one of the seats in front of his desk. I sit and place my bag on the floor next to me. “So my sister tells me you have a keen eye for interior design Miss Monroe” oh he needs to stop calling me that. “Please call me Demi” I say looking at his bright blue eyes, or maybe they are green, hazel, yes hazel eyes, oh stop it I chant over and over in my head. “Ok Demi” he smiles, “ so tell me a little bit about you” he asks placing his elbows on the table and resting his chin on his hands. “Well” I start, “ I studied interior design after I left high school, but I found it hard to find a steady job so ended up doing any kind of work I could get my hands on” oh god I sound like a loser. “And what is it you do now” he asks leaning back on his chair. “I recently lost my job at the diner where I worked, so I am currently unemployed” he will probably think I was sacked. “So you could commit yourself full time to me” oh how I would commit to you full time, does he even know what he is asking. I pause for a second, “Yes” I nod but even I’m not convinced as in precisely 5 hours I will be homeless. “You seem unsure” he looks angry now, like I have wasted his time. “Yes I can commit full time to you” I say with more confidence. “Good, because the position will be a live in roll, I need you on hand at all times, and if your half as good as my sister tells me, we will create something spectacular” wow he sounds demanding. “I’m sorry, did you say live in roll” is he asking me to move in with him, “Yes”, you will live with me full time, and then travel to my new apartment across town to work your magic” he smiles, and its the first real smile I have seen since we met. This is a lot to take in, I mean yes I’m desperate, but to move in with a man I don’t know is Ludacris, my sister would be turning in her grave. “Do I have time to think about it” I ask, not because I need time to think about it, but I need him to think I have other options. “Yes of course” take all the time you need, go and consult with family and friends if you need to” he stands and hands me his card. “Call me as soon as you have your answer Miss Monroe, I mean Demi” he smiles again and it makes my tummy do funny things. I take the card from him and say thank you, I exit the room and walk past the blond smiling as I hit the button to call the elevator, the blonde gives me a smile as the doors close shut. Holy hell, that was intense, I mean yes I need the job and the money but to move in with him, he must be crazy. Maybe I am the crazy one, I mean what an opportunity for me, a place to live and a job, I mean he has money so I would not go with out, but can i even do the job. I finish my call with Mr Jeffries, he was most pleased when i accepted his offer, i surprised myself, he is sending over a car to collect me and my belongings. It’s a forty minute drive to my new home, a tall building only accessible through remote controlled gates. The grounds are kept immaculate and i feel like Cinderella finally coming home. I enter the building via some glass doors that are opened for me by a very jolly grey aired man in a very smart uniform. I take the elevator up to the top floor and step out into a marble foyer, this place is incredible. Mr Jeffries opens the door and greets me with a smile. “Good evening Miss Monroe” oh how he says my name makes my heart beat slightly fast. “Hello Mr Jeffries” i reply stepping into the large shiny hallway. “Please call me Aiden” oh I don’t know if I could, it feel too personal “Only if you call me Demi” I say feeling the heat from my cheeks. “Oh yes, my apologies” he slightly bows and holds out his arm as if to walk on. We enter a large kitchen come diner, all white cupboards and shiny black counter tops, everything is shiny and new, but for some reason I don’t like it. “Is this your place” I ask looking around at how very little furniture there is. “No, its a rental” he grabs a glass from next to the kitchen sink and proceeds to pour wine into it. “It’s actually an apartment my sisters owns, she said we can stay here until mine is almost finished”, he hands me the glass of wine and I take it with a thank you. “So why don’t you just stay here then” I suddenly realise I have no place asking such questions. He must have seen my expression because he relaxes and leans on the counter. “Well because she will be selling it soon and, well i wanted my own place” he sips his wine, “I have rented for years now because I never had an excuse to buy, but now I feel the times right” he smiles and drinks some more. “Come I will show your room” he stands and walks towards the hall again, he turns left and then left again, we stop in front of some double doors and I’m in awe when he opens them. The room is like nothing I have ever seen, white carpet lines the floor, which is super soft under my feet, a huge four poster bed sits in front of the biggest window I have ever seen. “I thought you would be most comfortable in this room” he leans on the wall with his hands in his pockets. “Would you not be more comfortable in this room” I ask feeling well and truly spoilt. “I can assure you my room is just as nice” he winks and walks out of the room. I follow him down the hall and into another room just as big as mine. “This room is as big as the whole of my last apartment” It just doesn’t feel real being here. We walk back to the kitchen and he pulls out an envelope from a kitchen draw, he hands it to me and I open it carefully, inside are two credit cards, one black and one gold, attached to one is a small piece of paper with a PIN number on it. “So the black one is your personal credit card, that’s where I will pay your wages” oh wow, my own credit card, now I feel like Julia Roberts from pretty woman,. “The gold card is for all purchases for the new apartment, there is no limit so go crazy” he makes me snap my head towards him when he says that. “When do I get to see this apartment” I ask putting the cards back into the envelope. “We can go see it Friday evening if you like” he really is in no rush is he. “Today is Tuesday” I say thinking hello, what am I going to do until then. “Look you have money now so go and spend it” his face instantly drops when he says it, like he knew he had over stepped the line. “Demi”, I don’t let him finish. “It’s fine” even though its not fine, I know I’m poor, I don’t want him to think of me as a charity. “Look I’m super tired” I say putting down my glass and standing. “Of course” he says putting down his own glass, “do you need any help” he asks following me into the hall where my boxes now sit. “No its fine, I can manage” I know I seem blunt with him, but he pissed me off and the sad thing about is, he knows it.
