Breaking the Barrier

236 Words
The clash in the sub-level corridor was deafening. Syndicate enforcers fired suppressing bursts from heavy energy-crossbows, the bolts splintering the stone walls and sending showers of sparks across the floor. Velan moved like a freight train, his immense strength allowing him to slam directly into the plasma-shield barrier, his broadsword crashing down with enough force to shatter the energy matrix into a million glowing shards. The syndicate guards staggered backward in sheer terror as the dominant Alpha descended upon them. Behind him, Aeloria slipped through the chaos like smoke. She vaulted off a fallen pillar, landing soundlessly behind the enemy line. Her dual daggers flashed in the crimson emergency light as she neutralized the secondary threat, disabling their communication relays before any reinforcements could be called in. Within two minutes, the entire enforcer squad was neutralized, pinned to the floor or disarmed. Kaelen jogged up moments later, dragging a struggling syndicate lieutenant by the collar. "Alpha, we secured the console. The lockdown codes were routed through an external terminal linked to the southern trade post—someone inside our own administrative ranks is selling us out." Velan sheathed his sword, stepping over the debris as he walked up to the captured lieutenant. His golden eyes burned with absolute fury. "Name the traitor." The lieutenant spat a mouthful of blood onto the stone floor, laughing weakly. "You're too late... the trap is already closing from the inside."
