The Rogue Plan

MATED TO MY ALPHA MATE The sun rose higher in the sky, casting a golden hue over the war-torn village. Smoke still curled from the smoldering ruins, and the faint cries of survivors echoed in the air. Derek's pack worked tirelessly, helping the villagers rebuild while scouting for any lingering threats. The tension from the battle was still palpable, and everyone moved with a sense of urgency. Diva stood by the edge of the village, staring at the ruins of what used to be a thriving community. She couldn’t shake the image of the boy she had saved, his tear-streaked face etched into her mind. He was safe now, reunited with his family, but the devastation around her was a stark reminder of the dangers they all faced. "You shouldn’t be out here alone," Mikael said, walking up behind her. Diva turned to him, her expression distant. "I needed some air." Mikael studied her for a moment, then gestured to the village. "This is the reality of our world, Diva. The rogues won’t stop until they’ve destroyed everything in their path." "Why?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "Why do they do this? What could they possibly gain from so much destruction?" Mikael sighed, running a hand through his hair. "It’s not always about gain. Sometimes, it’s just about chaos. But there’s more to this. The rogues are too organized, too coordinated. Someone is pulling their strings." Diva’s stomach twisted at his words. "And you think it’s connected to Derek?" "Everything points to him," Mikael admitted. "The rogues are targeting his pack for a reason. But what that reason is, we don’t know yet." --- Back at Derek’s Mansion The pack returned to the mansion by midday. Despite the fatigue etched into their faces, there was no time to rest. Derek called an emergency meeting in the grand hall, summoning his top warriors and advisors to discuss their next move. Diva lingered near the staircase, watching as the pack gathered. She felt out of place, like an intruder in their world. But something in her wouldn’t let her walk away. "You’re coming with me," Derek said, appearing at her side. Diva blinked in surprise. "What?" "You’re part of this pack now," he said firmly. "That means you have a say in what happens next." Before she could protest, he took her hand and led her into the grand hall. The room fell silent as they entered, all eyes turning to her. Diva felt the weight of their gazes, some curious, others hostile. She squared her shoulders, refusing to let their judgment faze her. Derek took his place at the head of the table, his presence commanding. "The attack on the village wasn’t random," he began. "The rogues were after something—or someone." Caleb stepped forward, placing a map on the table. "We found this on one of the rogues," he said, pointing to a series of markings. "It’s a map of our territory, with several locations circled. They’ve been planning this for weeks." The room buzzed with murmurs as the pack members exchanged uneasy glances. Diva leaned closer, studying the map. "What’s this spot here?" she asked, pointing to an unmarked area near the forest. Derek’s expression darkened. "That’s the old Blackwood Estate. It’s been abandoned for years." "Maybe not anymore," Caleb said grimly. "If the rogues are using it as a base, we need to act fast." --- Later That Evening As plans were being made to investigate the Blackwood Estate, Diva found herself wandering the mansion’s sprawling halls. She ended up in a room she hadn’t seen before, a library filled with floor-to-ceiling shelves of old books and artifacts. One book in particular caught her eye—a leather-bound journal with Derek’s name embossed on the cover. She hesitated, glancing around to make sure no one was watching, then opened it. The pages were filled with sketches and notes, some of them detailing rogue attacks from years ago. But one entry stood out: “The curse of the Blackwoods runs deeper than I ever imagined. The rogues aren’t just attacking for revenge. They’re looking for something—something my family tried to bury long ago. If they find it, it could destroy us all.” Diva’s heart raced as she read the words. What was Derek hiding? "You shouldn’t be in here," a voice said, startling her. She turned to see Derek standing in the doorway, his expression unreadable. "I didn’t mean to—" she began, but he held up a hand to stop her. "It’s fine," he said, walking over to her. "But there are things in that journal you might not be ready to understand." "Like what?" she asked, her voice steady despite the fear bubbling inside her. Derek hesitated, his eyes searching hers. "The Blackwood curse. It’s the reason the rogues are after us. They believe we’re guarding something—a weapon, a treasure, I don’t even know anymore. But whatever it is, it’s dangerous." "Why didn’t you tell me?" Diva demanded. "Because I didn’t want to drag you into it," he said softly. "But it seems I don’t have a choice anymore." --- Meanwhile, in the Rogue Camp The rogue leader, a tall man with silver hair and a scar running down his left cheek, stood before his pack. His voice was cold and commanding as he addressed them. "The Blackwoods think they’ve won," he said, a sinister smile playing on his lips. "But this is just the beginning. The weapon we seek is real, and it’s hidden in their estate. Once we have it, their reign will end, and ours will begin." A murmur of approval swept through the rogues. One of the younger rogues stepped forward. "What about the girl? The new Luna?" The leader’s smile widened. "She’s the key. If we can capture her, Derek will do anything to get her back. And when he comes for her, we’ll be ready." The rogues erupted into cheers, their bloodlust palpable. --- Back at the Mansion Derek and Diva sat in the library, the tension between them thick. "What happens if they find this weapon?" Diva asked quietly. "Then everything we’ve built will be destroyed," Derek said grimly. Diva looked at him, her fear giving way to determination. "Then we can’t let them find it." Derek nodded, his gaze softening. "We won’t." But even as he said the words, he couldn’t shake the feeling that their time was running out.
