Blood Moon Rising

Chapter 12

Kassidy woke up to discover that Konrad and Kade had left early to attend an Alpha meeting at the Red Moon pack. Karla was sipping coffee, tucked away in the corner of the crushed velvet sofa.

'Don't worry sweetheart, they will be back in time for the ball tonight'

Grabbing herself a glass of orange juice, she joined Karla on the sofa.

'So what's the plan for today? I thought I might pay Jax a visit to wish him a happy birthday at some point'

'Oh, he's actually gone with your father and Kade. Your father thought it would be good practice for the both of them to meet with an Alpha of an allied pack'

Kassidy nodded, feeling slightly disappointed.

'I thought we might have a girly day' Karla grinned. 'First we'll have a full body massage, followed by a manicure and pedicure.'

That perked Kassidy right up, she'd never had a massage before.

'That sounds like heaven' she sighed.

'Good' Karla chuckled 'Now go get some breakfast, they'll be here in an hour'

Kassidy rushed down to the pack kitchen, with Austin, her brothers usual bodyguard following behind. She'd have enough time for a quick breakfast and a shower.

'Morning Lisa'

'Morning Miss Kassidy, what can I getcha?'

Kassidy smiled to herself at how much more confident Lisa now was around her, it was nice to see the wolves so at ease in her presence.

'Have we got any croissants? I fancy a couple warm with chocolate spread'

'What about you Austin?' Kassidy asked.

He looked surprised that she had bothered to think of him.

'Erm, I've actually already eaten' he confessed, chagrined.

'Coming right up' Lisa beamed 'Take a seat, I'll bring it over'

The tables were full of warriors who had just finished the 2-10 shift, they would eat breakfast then slink off to bed for a few hours. Wow, she really had slept in. Oh well, it's the weekend.

Spotting Jenny in her usual corner with her nose stuck in a book, Kassidy wandered over, smiling to herself for the second time today at how lost Jenny could get in a good old novel.

'Morning Jen' she announced herself before plopping down in the seat opposite her. Austin took a seat on one table over, he never hovered like Jax did because him and Kassidy weren't friends as such.

'Oh, hey' Jenny seemed dazed and confused.

'Earth to Jenny' she giggled. 'I bet those eggs have gone cold' she points to the plate lay on the table in front of Jenny.

'Yep, third time this week' Jenny blushed. 'Anyway, how are things?'

'Good, Karla's organised a pamper day ahead of the ball'

The chair next to Kassidy scraped backwards and a freshly preened Jared sat down.

'Morning ladies' he purred.

Eugh, just the sight of him made Kassidy's stomach churn.

'So I was thinking that maybe I could accompany you to the ball tonight' Jared half whispered in a sleazy tone that most she-wolves probably fell at his feet for.

Before she could answer, a group of girls walked past.

'Hey Jared' one of them chirped while flipping her hair seductively.

When he ignored her, she stopped.

'Ewww, Jared, why are you talking to Jenny the freak?' she shrieked.

Jenny the freak?

Kassidy thought about all of the the times she'd seen Jenny since arriving at the pack, not once has she been hanging out with friends. Always just reading her books.

Kassidy hated bullies, she certainly wouldn't tolerate skanky a*s she-wolves talking about someone as sweet and innocent as Jenny in that way.

'Who the hell do you think you are?' Kassidy yelled, standing suddenly.

Austin jumped up too, undecided whether he should intervene or leave Kassidy to it.

'I asked you a question' she growled

Austin sat back down, she clearly had this one.

The floozy stammered, unsure of how to answer.

'W-Well, look at her. She's always just reading, never doing anything fun' she mocked.

'And maybe if you spent a bit more time reading and less time with boys, you'd have the brain cells to recognise your superiors' Kassidy bellowed, causing the bunch of girls to flinch.

'If I ever catch you bothering anyone in this pack again, I'll have you scrubbing toilets for the rest of your days. Do I make myself clear?'

The girls bow in submission at the aura rippling off Kassidy.

'Y-Yes Alpha Kassidy' they muttered.

Jared smirked as they scurried away.

'What the hell are you laughing at you sleaze ball?'

Jared's face dropped, gawking, dumbfounded.

'Like I'd ever go to the ball with such a man w***e, now get out of here'

Jenny burst out laughing as Jared ran away with his tail between his legs.

'Kass, calm down, your eyes are glowing purple' Jenny spluttered through her hysterical laughing.

Kassidy cracked a smile and eventually joined in with her infectious laughter just as Lisa approached with the croissants.

'Thanks Lisa, but I think I'll take them to go'

She turned back to Jenny with a glint in her eye.

'You girly, are coming with me'.

'How do you feel now man? Better after your first shift, am I right?'

Kade smirked, slapping a hand on Jax's shoulder.

'Yeah, although it hurt like hell' he chuckled.

The SUV pulled up to a gate, manned by two muscular serious looking warriors.

'Name' one of them demanded as Konrad opened the car window.

'Alpha Konrad of the Silver Lake pack, we're here to see Alpha Lorenzo. He is expecting us'

A strong aura rippled off Konrad, displeased at the frosty welcome. The warrior took a step back and gulped nervously, choking on the thick pheromones. With a nod of his head, the gate was opened.

Konrad sped off up the driveway towards the pack house.

'Friendly bunch then' Kade joked.

'Usually, yes. It makes me wonder what has been going on'.

Alpha Lorenzo stood patiently waiting to greet them as they stepped out of the SUV. Grasping Konrad's hand firmly, he shook it with a smile.

'You called an emergency meeting Lorenzo, what's going on?'

'Not out here my friend, let's go inside and talk over lunch'

Konrad nodded in understanding.

'Lorenzo, this is Kade, my son and Jax who is the next in line Beta. They've been learning about pack business'

'Pleasure to meet you both, now follow me'.

Jenny felt herself blushing as Kassidy dragged her into the Alpha Suite, with a disgruntled Austin in tow.

'Is it okay if Jenny joins us today?... Please? She could really do with a day of relaxation' Kassidy turned and winked at Jenny who blushed an even deeper shade of pink.

Karla smiled widely, relieved that Kassidy was making friends.

'Of course, come in Jenny, take a seat'

'Thank you' Jenny smiled, sheepishly.

Austin, you can take a break for an hour or so, I'll link you when we're done'

He bowed to his Luna graciously before exiting.

Kassidy rushed her breakfast and jumped in the shower, the communal living space of the Alpha Suite had been converted into a tranquil sanctuary by the time she returned, with low lighting, flickering candles and relaxing music playing in the background. Three massage tables lay in a row next to eachother, with a girl in a black uniform stood next to each one.

'Ah, just in time' Karla announced. 'Here' she handed Kassidy and Jenny a cotton robe each. 'Get unchanged in one of the bedrooms and put this robe on over your underwear'

Jenny and Kassidy's eyes darted wide open in horror. Karla chuckled.

'Trust me, it's normal. You'll be fine'

Jenny uncomfortably tugged the robe tightly around herself as she approached a table, followed by a grinning Kassidy.

'Pick a bed, take your arms out of your robe, lay down on your front and just relax' Karla encouraged.

The masseuse worked the warm oil into Kassidy's skin, massaging and loosening muscles she didn't even know she had.

'Oh. My. Life, this is like, wow' she heard Jenny groan.

Kassidy giggled.

'Yeah, wherever the guys are, they definitely aren't having a better day than us'

Konrad sat back in the chair and let out a heavy sigh.

'So he's working with dark magic witches now?'

'Yes, and very powerful ones too from what I've been told'

'Do you have any idea of what he's planning?'

Lorenzo slumped in his chair, defeated.

'Unfortunately no, not at this moment in time, but I have eyes everywhere, we should know soon enough'.

Kade chewed on his steak in silence, watching and listening to the Alpha's carefully. He'd learnt a bit about dark magic in his lessons with Elder Tobias, but it was now illegal to use, so deemed to be less important to know about.

'And that's why your warriors are on edge?'

Lorenzo shifted uncomfortably in his seat. Alpha's hated to have a weakness, but what they hated even more was for someone else to see it.

'I suppose you could say that. You have the best warriors in the region, I was hoping you could help us out'

Konrad eyed Lorenzo for a minute before turning to Kade and Jax.

'What would you do?'

Kade used the time it took him to chew his mouthful of steak to consider the question.

'I don't know about the warriors in other packs, but the warriors in our pack are certainly impressive.'

Jax lips sloped into a sideways smile, proud to be one of the best fighters.

'With that being said' Kade continued 'I do not think it would be wise to send any of our warriors away from our territory when there is a threat to us still out there'

Konrad slowly nodded, agreeing with his sons statement.

'So what would you suggest instead? One of our allied packs is asking us for help'

'May I?' Jax asked, looking between Kade and Konrad, not wanting to overstep.

'Go ahead' Kade encouraged 'We're a team after all, right?'

Jax smiled, appreciatively.

'While I'm only a Beta of the Silver Lake pack, I've grown up watching my father with the pack.' he began explaining to Lorenzo.

'I agree that it would be foolish of us to send warriors to you, but what if you sent a few of your warriors to us?'

Jax cautiously assessed the faces around him, gauging their reactions before continuing.

'We could train up your warriors and then they could return to your pack, armed with the knowledge to train the rest'.

Lorenzo got to his feet and raised his glass with a smile.

'Sounds like a plan, I think Silver Lake will be in good hands with these two Konrad'

The others stood up and raised their glasses.

'To Silver Lake and Red Moon, may our allegiance continue'
