"What?" Vera glared at the guard who spoke, her eyes suffused with clear astonishment at the unexpected words out of his mouth.
Sizing him up, she questioned. "Do you know who I am?"
"Didn't you just tell me?" The guard asked back with a raised brow.
Vera sneered. "Yet you behave like this with me?... I am Vera Martinez, and I know the person who threw the party taking place inside, so unless you want to lose your job, you will actually check the list and don't give me that bullshit!"
"I already told you, your name is not on the list, so be on your way before I'm forced to kick you out."
"Are you really speaking to me like that?... Who do you think you are?"
"I'm only doing my job."
"Are you f*****g crazy?"
"Please restrain yourself and don't constitute a nuisance here."
"Is that how it is?" Vera took a step back as she asked. "Fine then, since you have decided to act this way, don't blame me when you lose your job in the next few minutes."
In an attempt to make good on her threat, she swiftly pulled out a cell and attempted to dial a number.
Surprised by her actions, the guard immediately moved to stop her but before he could grab her arm, Marcus stepped in and blocked his path.
"I'd appreciate it if you don't overdo things."
A brief scrutiny from the guard allowed him to assess Marcus, making him out to be a foolhardy individual attempting to win Vera's favor.
Of course, with that thought process, he didn't spare a further glance before attempting to hit Marcus.
Unfortunately, he'd made the wrong move.
Marcus casually grabbed his wrist and without hesitation, slapped him across the face, causing stars to appear in his vision.
Blinking in confusion, the guard stepped back before collapsing on the ground.
Shocked by the turn of events, the guard's comrade, who kept watch with him, was staring at the fallen body of his friend, unsure of what to make of the situation.
"How did you…"
"I'd advise you not to make any moves you'd regret. It's for your own safety."
"..." The guard fell silent as he gulped audibly, even taking a step back out of fear of getting hit as well.
Meanwhile, Vera quickly dialed the number but couldn't help but stare in disbelief at Marcus's back.
With such a small body, he'd managed to knock unconscious a man who was three times his size.
Just what was the origin of this boy from the mountains?
She found herself drawn toward him, this time out of pure curiosity.
Just then, a voice was heard, jolting her from her thoughts.
"Oh hey Vera, what's up?... I didn't see you at the party so I assumed you didn't want to come."
Vera quickly placed the phone to her ear. "uhmm, hi, Deryl, I'm good. I got the wrong address and so it took me some time to get here. Uhmm, could you come pick me up? The guards outside are not letting me enter."
"Wait what?... Why!?"
"Something about me not being on the list." Vera casually replied.
At this point, the remaining guard who stood at the entrance was quite tense as he realized just how f****d up he was.
"Let me talk to them." Deryl's request left the guard sweating profusely, worried by whatever was about to happen.
Vera didn't say anything as she stepped forward and then placed the call on speaker.
"Oi, Rhodey."
"Uhmm, Rhodey is unconscious, it's me, Ratty."
"Tch, whatever. Why the hell are you guys not letting Vera in?... Are you trying to get on my nerves or something?"
"That…"
"Shut the f**k up. Now let her in before I come over there and relieve you of your tasks."
"... Understood, sir."
With that, the call was disconnected and Vera glanced at Ratty.
"Is there a problem?"
"...No."
"Am I on the list?"
"...Yes."
"Good to know." Vera tapped Ratty's cheek as she stepped over his unconscious friend, with Marcus following closely behind with his hands in his pockets.
Walking leisurely, they made their way into the club with the first thing greeting them being the overwhelmingly loud music that threatened to disrupt Marcus's eardrums.
Sometimes, having overly sensitive senses made it difficult to handle such situations.
Furrowing his brows, Marcus pulled his hands from his pocket and plugged his ears with his fingers.
Vera noticed this as she glanced at him. "...Is there a problem?"
"... It's a bit too loud."
"Tch, you were the one who wanted to come."
"... I didn't know it would be so loud."
"Of course, how could I forget that you are from the mountains?" Rolling her eyes, Vera reached into her handbag and pulled out a set of earmuffs.
"You can use this." She intoned while handing it over.
"Thanks," Marcus said as he took the earmuffs and put them on.
Pursing her lips, Vera muttered under her breath. "You're welcome."
"Did you say something?" Marcus asked.
"Of course not!... Hmph."
Seemingly embarrassed, Vera moved ahead while Marcus got used to earmuffs.
Soon, they arrived at the dancefloor which was quite rowdy with several youths gyrating to the sound of music permeating the area.
Surveying the area, she soon found her target.
She cat walked over, meandering her way through the dense dancefloor to arrive in the VIP area.
"Vera, you made it." Deryl, a black haired youth with a slightly muscular physique remarked with an underlying tone of excitement as he got to his feet and approached her.
Vera shifted her gaze to find a familiar face seated next to where Deryl had been seated a moment ago.
With dark hair and a seductively made-up face, Mira wore a short black gown that revealed her long legs and delicate shoulders.
The women locked eyes for a moment, a silent exchange occurring between them before they casually turned their attention away from one another.
Vera sneered inwardly as she turned her attention back to Deryl and replied. "If it isn't Class 23's biggest party animal. I'm glad I could be invited to one of your raves."
"Well, it's the last one before we have to face real life. I'm glad you could make it."
