“This must be a sick joke to frame Gavin. He can’t do this to me, I know him.” Aya kept convincing herself that Gavin was not capable of hurting her like that. Aya stood up and wiped her tears, still unconvinced about the text she received. She dialed Ava’s number, but no one is answering.
She started checking their shared drive. It was clean, mostly only photos of her nothing new from Gavin’s end. But she remembered how Ava and she would exchange photos of their food. She inspected the photo, hoping to get clues about Gavin’s whereabouts.
Aya zoomed in and out of the photo and then realized that there was a common sign in all the food photos he sent. Those plates have names engraved on them. Aya realized it was the name of the restaurant. And if her hunch is correct, the amount of pictures Gavin have on that store, it just means two things. He works there, or he lives near.
Gavin is a person who adores convenience even if it means eating at the same place over and over, like how he did at the ramen house across the auto shop. Aya gathered her things and called her body guard nearby to bring her to that restaurant.
Aya rushed to get dressed. At the back of her mind, this will be her first meeting with Gavin after a couple of months and even if it means that they are not quite on good status, she wants to look her best for him.
She still is not convinced that Gavin was the one who texted her. She wants to see Gavin directly and to know what is going on in his mind. They are not strangers to end everything on text like this. Aya sat in the car quietly after she gave the location to her driver.
Aya tried to call Gavin’s number over and over, but he was not picking up. It actually dawned on her that it might really be Gavin. He is fighting it back; he did his best not to contact her, but he made a way. Gavin did his best to hide his real identity just to be able to contact her. The way he texted her last night shows that Gavin is having a hard time. He is confused; maybe he just needs to see her again to reaffirm their love.
On the other hand, she did not need any reaffirmations, yet he still loves him whatever rough patch they went through. Although she did not really fight for them, she let everything goes as she deemed was appropriate. It was just to wait for his return. But how will she be able to do that now when Gavin himself is not sure if there is something to go back to?
Aya is not the type of person to sulk over a man, but Gavin is not just any other man. Gavin is her man, the one she thought she could spend the rest of her life with. The one she gave her everything to, the one who promised her love, true love.
She stared out the window. Nothing much she can do but hope for the best. A few hours later, they reached Bill and Ali’s restaurant. Aya’s car seems out of place in this part of the city. Heads turned when they passed the alley.
Aya stepped out of the car, and just like her vehicle, she was an absolute head turner, even if she was dressed simply. Her face and her aura are her greatest asset. She has a different vibe amongst the rest. It cannot be defined simply, but it is definitely what makes her more appealing.
She does not know where the restaurant is exactly located. Aya just followed her driver and bodyguard around while she anxiously looks at the surrounding faces, hoping to find Gavin. The restaurant was pretty famous in the streets as people were able to point them in the right direction.
“Good evening, sir. I was wondering if you know a man named Gavin Knight?” Sofia asked the old man standing behind the counter.
He looked like he saw a ghost. Sofia did not expect his reaction from older men, though it was pretty much the default reaction from younger men who know about her video. The look on the man’s face indicates that he knows about the video. The very reason she avoided Victoria for the longest time.
“Yes, he used to live and work here. Why?” He asked back with a tone of disdain.
The way he answered, it seemed clear to her that Gavin did not even mention her to the people he worked with. Aya finds it actually weird, because when they were together, he was pretty much proud of her.
“Well, my name is Sofia White, Gavin is my fiancé. I need to talk to him.” Aya told the old man with confidence.
He walked out the back of the counter and scrutinized Aya from head to toe as he cupped his chin.
"So you are saying that you are his fiancee? Right?" The old man asked Aya back.
Aya was puzzled, but she answered him with a nod and an awkward smile.
"But you said your name is Sofia. The woman that is Gavin's fiancee is Veronica." The old man said as he chuckled like he meant that Aya is a liar.
"What? No, there must be a mistake. My name is Sofia. Look." Aya took out her phone and showed the old man their photos during their engagement.
"My name is Bill. And I am sure I am talking about that Gavin in the photo. But I am sorry he never mentioned about you. Anyway, haven't you seen the news?" Bill asked Aya again.
"What do you mean? No, I'm sorry Mr. Bill but I haven't seen the news today." Aya said bluntly, and she does not think it would make sense because it would be like landing on the moon if Gavin was on the news.
"Hmm, Gavin went out of the country with his fiancee. I mean the real one." Bill said with conviction at the last words. He turned on the television in the shop and scrolled to the entertainment news, which will most likely show the news about Gavin and Veronica.
"Oh there it is!" He exclaimed when he saw the paparazzi photos of Gavin and Veronica and laughed mirthlessly.
"Gavin?" Aya stuttered when she saw the snaps of Gavin with another woman. It felt surreal, but the tears falling on her cheeks were nothing but fake. These are real tears showing real pain. Unfathomable pain caused by the person who built her world but is now recklessly destroying it.
