First Million

1088 Words
Gavin loved the enthusiasm he saw on Veronica’s face as well. It is as if they had the same frequency. It was weird to see another person he could vibe with like this if it was not Aya. Although what he feels for her is completely platonic, he can’t speak for Veronica. Gavin is keeping his hopes high that he will not break Veronica’s heart. “Sure, let’s make that first million.” Gavin said with a smile. Veronica pointed out to him some critical waves and arches she saw earlier. She let Gavin decide on it. It surprised Gavin that he did not see that earlier because his filter was on a weekly tab. When he opened the hourly, he saw the pattern Veronica was talking about. He was confident to do the trade because Veronica was by his side; the expert’s help and guidance is an assurance for him that he was doing it right. Gavin closed his eyes and said a brief prayer as he clicked trade. When he opened his eyes again, the numbers turned green and kept growing at a rate he never thought he would ever see his money grow. Gavin looked back at Veronica and she was smiling at him like a teacher proud of her student. Gavin closed the trade when it surpassed a little over a million. Veronica clapped her hands and congratulated Gavin. “You are indeed the best student I ever had.” She muttered, appreciating Gavin’s trading skill. Gavin still feels surreal. It is the first time he had this amount of money and he did it on his own on this one. He had help for Veronica but he was the who decided on the trade, he just needed to see the confidence on Veronica’s face as well. His eyes started swelling in tears. Gavin, being an ex gangster crying like this and being emotional is totally out of the character he portrayed his whole life. Veronica saw Gavin’s emotional state. We usually call her a cold-hearted bi*ch and it is true. She does not show emotions at all because she believes that it is a total waste of time. What you do after accomplishing your goal is set another one and move on. But it feels totally different this time; soon enough her eyes turned red and tears fell off of it. She was tearing for Gavin. “How is this possible?” Veronica could not even believe it herself. Gavin stood up and gave her a hug when he saw Veronica cry, too. “It is not every day that you see another person sincerely happy for you. I am indebted to you.” He whispered to Veronica. Veronica accepted his embrace. For some weird reason, she liked how it felt to be wrapped in Gavin’s arms. This is the first time she was this close to a man. It was something new, but it was definitely something she liked. “You don’t owe me anything.” She responded to Gavin. Veronica knew she should not entertain these thought again. She tapped on Gavin to let her go. “Now let us focus on your lottery.” She chuckled to Gavin. Gavin instantly let go of Veronica and sat in his chair again. He showed Veronica the paper he scribbled on earlier. “This one. It think I found a glitch.” Veronica studied it, but she was not confident about the glitch. “Well, this is indeed a glitch, but the chances are still higher.” She commented on Gavin’s work. But the smile on Gavin’s face was not erased. He was still confident he could pull it off. “Yes, I realized that too. That is why I should go for three digits. It lessens the combinations it needs. And this kicker it doubles the earnings as well.” Veronica took a closer look at this new game play. Gavin was right, their system is flawed. “How on Earth did they pass this game?” She mumbled when she realized the potential. “So?” Gavin asked Veronica. She rested her hands on her hips and smiled at Gavin. “Go for it!” she excitedly gave him the go signal he was waiting for. Gavin stood up and punched in the air like he won the lottery already. “Okay, then I’ll go and place my bets.” He said and hurriedly left Veronica. She watched him go with his heart full of excitement. Veronica knows the feeling of getting your first win in life. It was as if things were finally falling in your direction. “Maybe, this is the reason I was emotional earlier?” She questioned her actions.  *** Gavin went straight to business and then went to Bill and Ali’s house. He explained everything to them and handed them the card that Veronica gave her before. It is his extra money after all he decides who to give it to. “Please, use this. I know it will help you guys a lot. I owe so much to you for helping me out when I was nothing but dead beat.” Gavin said as his hands clasped Ali’s hand with the card. “What? No! We helped you like we would help our own son. You don’t have to pay us.” Ali’s voice was cracking up. “Oh, then mom, please treat this as a gift from a son who wants to share his blessing with his parents.” He said it with a smile on his face. “You won’t reject your son, right?” Gavin confirmed it to Ali. Bill and Ali embraced Gavin. They remembered their late son. The three shared a meal; they also gave Gavin a take away he could give to Veronica. Bill and Ali watched Gavin ride his bike again as he drove away. “This is better for him,” Bill said to Ali. She just looked at him with speculative eyes. “We don’t get to decide for him, Bill.” Ali said with a tone of conviction in her voice. Bill took a deep sigh. He clearly does not want to say the words he was about to say but he felt like it needed to be heard. “That’s what we did to our son, Ali. And look where it brought us. Look where it brought him. We can’t let Gavin make the same mistake of being with that woman; Sofia White.”
