HODL

“Huh? What are you talking about?” Veronica blurted out, totally embarrassed by Gavin’s comment. Gavin smirked at veronica. “This one, I saw you smiling while looking at my work.” Gavin pointed at his draft on the paper. He clearly did not take Veronica’s amusement on him in a different way. Veronica did not expect Gavin to be a little naïve. “Oh my, is this me admitting a crush on this man?” She tried her best to go back to their conversation. “Ahm, yeah. I mean it is fascinating that you can do this in such a short period.” She said as she picked up the paper Gavin was proud of. Gavin smiled proudly, like an excited student. “Well, I think it has a potential, but I don’t have enough money to bet anyway, so…” He muttered but still with a smile on his face. “What do you mean you don’t have enough money to make a bet?” Veronica sat on Gavin’s table, she handed him a card. “Here, the tips you refused for almost a month of deliveries. I kept them for you. You can use it to trade today.” She encouraged him to try a day trade. Gavin was having second thoughts about whether he should accept it. He initially refused them for a reason, and now accepting it all of a sudden might seem going back to his words. Gavin stared at the card for a few seconds before speaking, “I will accept this for now, but I will return it to you as soon as I earn it back.” He looked at Veronica straight in the eyes. She took a deep sigh. She can’t believe that there are still people like Gavin in this world. It feels so unreal living around the people surrounding her for all of her life. “Sure, if that would make it easier for you to accept it. We can donate it to charity or something because I am not accepting that back.” Veronica made her intention clear. The money was for Gavin and she did not want him to feel that his capital was something he owed from someone. Gavin knew Veronica is stubborn and will not accept it back he just accepted it as it is. “Okay then, what should we do?” He asked Veronica for the next step. “Did you see me work earlier?” She asked him; when honestly he saw her work for just around a few minutes because he was too busy texting Aya. He shrugged his shoulders, “Well, not really. I’m sorry” Gavin admitted that his mind was out of the room half the time they were there. Veronica laughed, seeing Gavin’s sorry face like he did something grave. “This guy is really something else.” She thought to herself while she covered her mouth, trying her best to control her laughter. “It’s okay. You don’t have to be so guilty about it. Let’s work on it now.” Veronica took the computer mouse from Gavin’s hand and talked over his shoulders. Gavin never dared looked in Veronica’s direction, it would be too awkward for him. He’d rather have a stiff neck than see what he isn’t supposed to see. It proved as an advantage for him, as they focused better on their work. Veronica taught him on how to use the software to get the predictions based on world news. “Do you know why it is important to check the news and different sites before trading?” Veronica asked Gavin. “Hmm, because it will give you an insight on which lot will benefit you more thus you can decide to buy it or not?” Gavin replied, but still doubtful of his answer. Veronica nodded. She saw that Gavin somehow understands it. “Well, you are correct at a degree, but you always take news with a grain of salt. It doesn’t have to be true. What you are looking for are rumors, you buy it.” She said to Gavin. “What the heck are you talking about?” Gavin furrowed his thick brows. “I mean when there are rumors that is when you click buy and when it becomes news; that is the time to sell.” She said it like it was easy. “Well, that is good, though. It means whatever situation it is I can earn since I can select sell too, right?” Gavin wanted to confirm it if he was following Veronica. Veronica bobbed her head, happy about how Gavin was picking up quickly. “For company stocks, foreign exchange and commodities like gold, oil, cotton and the likes, yes you can, but for crypto currencies you can’t. You can only buy and close trade that is the sell option you can do.” She explained. Gavin knows a little about these crypto currencies as he finds it fascinating that people are actually putting value on such technology. “Hmm, so I can only buy lots, then hold on to it and wait until the value increases? But how about when the value decreases?” He asked Veronica. She chuckled hearing his question. “You don’t sell, darling. You HODL” “HODL?” It intrigued Gavin to hear and learning these new terms from Veronica. She laughed again, louder this time. “Hold on for Dear Life.” She blurted out and held on to her tummy as she laughed so hard. Gavin laughed with her when he heard Veronica’s joke, or so he thought. “I’m being serious.” Veronica said, while still laughing with Gavin. “For real?” Gavin wiped his tears because of too much laughter. Veronica nodded, confirming it was a serious term used in trading. “Yes, we don’t sell. If it the value decreases, then we will buy again. But you buy double the value of the higher price you first bought.” Veronica paused, checking if Gavin was still following. He nodded, encouraging Veronica to continue with her explanation. “Now, if the coin you bought at a lower price increases surpassing the coin you bought at a higher price, then you sell the higher one.” Veronica added. “It does not make much sense, it sounds like an investment rather than a short trade.” Gavin responded. It made Veronica smile, thinking Gavin was getting how trading works. “Well, yes, you can do a short trade if you want, since crypto currencies are highly volatile. But you have to understand that there are rumors that Bitcoin could reach the moon almost one hundred thousand dollars by the end of the year,” Gavin remembered what she said earlier; we have to buy the rumors. He finally understood why Veronica advised to HODL. The rumors about crypto currencies to eventually replace centralized money are not dying anytime soon. “Now, let's do foreign exchange for the short trade you want. Let’s make your first million.” Veronica winked at Gavin.
