Gavin and Veronica looked in the direction of the stern voice. Veronica stood up with a pale look on her face. “Mod? Dad? What are you doing here?” She asked them in her confrontational tone when she finally collected herself.
Gavin stood up too, in his attempt to appear respectful to Veronica’s parents even if they were just caught when they were about to get intimate. Definitely not the way a parent would like to meet their in law for the first time.
“You know very well that the walls have ears, Veronica. It's just sad that we had to hear about it from other people!” Her mom answered as she placed her hands on her hips with her eyebrows lifted like they were about to take off.
Her father crossed his arms over his chest. “Are you two living together now? Who is this guy?” He confronted Veronica again.
Gavin wiped his hands and extended it to Veronica’s father. “Good evening, sir. My name is Gavin Knight. I am your daughter’s fiancé.” He said without blinking an eye.
Veronica’s dad; Bernard moved slightly towards Gavin as if he was charging into him. “Fiancé? Are you hearing yourself right now? You do not deserve my daughter! You are a nobody!” He exclaimed, condemning Gavin but also cementing the impression he had with them. Veronica was right. Her parents do not really care about her, but are only focused on their wealth and their social status.
Veronica stepped in between the two men. She knows very well that her father loves to intimidate men who he doesn’t seem fit for their business; rather than for her. Gavin rested his hand on Veronica’s shoulder and whispered into her ears. “It’s okay, darling. Relax. I can handle this.”
Veronica felt the sincerity in Gavin’s voice. She anchored her arm around Gavin’s waist. Like she established her stand, it is with her man; Gavin. “You said that walls have ears. Why don’t you use it to know more about my fiancé. The facts might surprise you. You don’t know who you are talking down to.” Veronica said like Gavin really has a strong background when he clearly doesn’t have one.
Bernard heard what Gavin whispered to Veronica. He clearly said he can handle the situation. "Does he even know me? No one can manhandle me!" He protested like a little child.
“Honey, let them be. We should get going, it is getting late. Let’s just speak when they come back from their vacation.” Veronica’s mom; Vanessa is trying her best to convince her husband to ease the tension.
Surprisingly for Gavin, he saw Bernard’s expression soften. It was a borderline scared and intimidated to impressed expression. Bernard nodded and left the scene with his wife without saying a single word again.
Gavin and Veronica sat back feeling relieved when they were sure that her parents have left. “See how fast they knew about you?” Veronica blurted out, though she did not expect her parents to come to her so instantly.
“Yeah, and I saw how mad your dad is. Are you sure this is a good idea, though? I mean, I am not sure how we can convince them with my background.” Gavin said as he obviously lost his confidence in this scenario.
Veronica smiled at Gavin. That smile indicates that she was prepared for it already. She knows her family will dig into Gavin and she made her move even before they pried into his life. “You don’t have to worry about that Darling. I got that Covered.” She raised her glass to him and they finished the bottle before they went to their rooms.
The agreed to finish their drink because it might be the last time Veronica could do this, if there is a chance for treatment. Also, it is Gavin's first time going out of the country. He wanted to get knocked out so he could sleep early tonight.

“Shirley. I want you to search for a certain Gavin Knight. I want it done now.” Vanessa called her personal secretary. She can’t wait to know who that handsome man beside her daughter is. His physical attributes are enough to convince her that the two will give them the best looking babies in their circle, but she can’t brag about physical beauty when his pocket is empty.
Bernard, on the other hand is quiet. He was caressing his beard as he was thinking how come he never heard of Gavin Knight before. What bothers him the most is that Gavin was not intimidated by him, not even a flinch. “He must be a very powerful man.” Bernard thought to himself, as he was too brave to face him like how he did earlier.
“Ms. Vanessa, I dug out some articles about him. Gavin Knight is the founder of the Knight Empire. He is the one who owns the lots of the three biggest shopping centers in the business district. They also hold the biggest imports for medical supply in the country. And his current estimated net worth; is bigger than of Ms. Veronica.” Shirley said those last words very slowly because it is the first time that they met someone richer than Veronica, but is as low key as her too. Those articles about Gavin are not even press releases, they are just legal documents that she was able to track.
“Okay, Shirley. Thanks for the info.” Vanessa was all smiles when she faced her husband. “Our unfilial daughter finally came to her senses. We should hurry up and get them married." Vanessa told her husband.
"I don't know, even if he is wealthier than us, it does not mean we can easily make him work his contracts in favor of our company." Bernard was a little skeptical about Gavin. Especially now that he can clearly see that he can't force Gavin by intimidation.
It seemed strange to Bernard that he never heard about Gavin. "In his stature and looks, he should be well sought out by other families with single daughters. But why is he staying low? There must be something more to this. It doesn't make sense.." Bernard added.
"I know, but would you rather see him with the Whites?" Vanessa knows that Gavin is the best catch for their daughter as of the moment. "Anyway, if they get married earlier, we just have to make sure that Veronica gets an heir from Gavin. Then we can work it out and erase him from this world. I will write his entire empire for our grandchildren." Vanessa concocted her evil plan already when it is just the first day of meeting Gavin.
Bernard chuckled. "I love your idea, honey. We will get our cute little grandchildren that are ultra rich. I am amazed that you figured it out that far already." He openly admired his wife.
