Boy Toy

Aya knew she would get hurt, she knew what to expect when she walked towards Gavin's place. Is she a masochist for doing it to herself? Aya hugged herself as she walked with her head down. She kept wiping her tears, trying her best to conceal her loneliness from anyone else. Silently she went inside her store and to the backroom, and did not even bother turning on the light. She sat on her couch and rested her head. For the nth time in her life, she feels like a loser. Sofia has been through a lot for the past years and she is not ready to talk about it with anyone else yet. Only the people closest to her know her story; her true story. “Gavin told me repeatedly that he wants to be better to deserve me. But, I’m not even good; it’s the other way around. I don’t deserve him. Lucia, they look better together. Lucia can give Gavin that upgrade in his life. The bad boy needs a good woman; not like me, another bad girl who would just drag him down.” Aya mumbled as she cried more. “The heck, why am I crying for this dummy?” She could not figure herself out anymore. “Damn, Gavin! You are making me crazy!” She groaned in frustration. “ring, ring” Aya saw her phone ringing; she hated answering her phone when this caller id shows up. She exhaled deeply and tried to compose herself before answering. “Hello… Yes, dad.” Aya answered politely. She listened silently to what her father had to say, but being the stubborn one she rejected everything her father told her. She turned off her phone and left it on the table in the living room as she went directly to her room and cried herself to sleep. **** Gavin woke up early this morning. His schedule was clear today he finds it weird that he feels different when he never followed a schedule all his life. He spent his day reading more books; he did not notice how fast time passed by whenever he is indulged with his books.  He heard his stomach was growling already. He only had coffee for the entire day and nothing else. He was about to go outside to go buy food and his personal supplies when he heard a knock on his door. “knock, knock” He opened it, not expecting anyone today. It’s Lucia. She dressed up today casually, unlike the previous days where she wore corporate attire. She was wearing a simple black jeans and a red satin top. She also has a brown leather coat over her shoulders. “I’m heading home today. I just wanted to say goodbye. Oh, by the way are you heading out too?” Lucia asked Gavin. “Ah yes, I run out of supplies.” Gavin briefly answered Lucia. “Oh Perfect! Come on, let’s go to the princess. I want to see her before I leave.” Lucia tried her best to convince Gavin. “Please? I’ll go buy your stuff for you. You can just look at her from afar if you want.” She further negotiated with him. Gavin took a deep sigh. He wants to see Aya, but what he accomplished was not even enough to get back with her. But he wants to see her badly. He misses being with her so much that it feels like she left a hole in his heart.  “Come on, let’s go.” Gavin gave in. “Yes! Thank you buddy, you are the best!” Lucia exclaimed in glee she almost jumped. Lucia anchored her hand to Gavin’s arms as they walked down the block. Jealous heads turned towards the lovely couple. They look perfect for each other, and to top it off, they looked happy. “Look what we have here.” Jen sneered as she snapped some photos of Lucia and Gavin. She sent it to her group to chat with her friends. Her intention was, of course, to shame Aya once again; like how she successfully did it before.  The photos passed around their social circle and eventually reached Aya. Talks about how Lucia turned down every man that approached her in town is also spreading. People observed how close Lucia and Gavin are right now made sense. Lucia turned down the others because she is targeting the hottest guy in town; Gavin. They made Aya the laughingstock as she was quick to announce her relationship with Gavin and just like before; it would not even last a month. Aya’s phone is still turned off, trying to avoid her father since last night. She is oblivious to what is happening and the stories circulating around town. She was dusting products on the shelf when the woman who made her feel the lowest again came to her store. “Hello, good morning!” Lucia greeted her with her beautiful smile. Aya could not afford to show her how much of a loser she was. She smiled at Lucia, too. “Good morning. What do you need today? Did he like the beer?” Aya asked, trying to pry information from Lucia. “Oh, yes that. You were right, he said he missed drinking. He appreciated it.” Lucia answered Aya, trying to analyze her reaction. Both women are like threading on thin ice for scrutinizing each other’s reaction. Gavin nervously observes the two women across the street. Once again, he is a coward who cannot stand up for his love for Aya even if he badly wants to hug her right now.   “Good then, I hope you two had a great time.” Aya responded to Lucia and went to the back of the counter. “We had. My tummy ached for laughing too much. He is a great guy.” Lucia said as she proceeded to buying Gavin’s things, as she promised him.  Aya, on the other hand can’t help but noticed that Lucia was buying personal care products for men. “Are they that close now? Are they going to live together?” She muttered under her breath. She shook her head trying to erase her thoughts; she swallowed hard before responding to Lucia.“That’s nice to hear. I see you are compatible with each other.”  Lucia dropped her coat on the floor. She was slow to pick it up. Then she asked Aya. “This is a small town, you might know him.” Lucia cleared her throat not believing herself that she would say the next words. “Tall, hunk, sexy lips and expressive eyes, oh and smart and funny.” She continued almost choking for over complementing Gavin. “You mean Gavin?” Aya replied with a frown on her face, obviously irritated with Lucia for objectifying Gavin. “Yes, Gavin. Mr. Gavin Knight.” Lucia confirmed it to Aya. Aya checked out the products Lucia bought. “So… Are you together now?” She could kill herself for asking that question because she would die if Lucia affirms it. “Together? Hmm, why do you ask?” Lucia wanted to extract it out from Aya to help Gavin before she leaves Hudson. “Wait, is there any chance that you like him?” ** Gavin exhaled loudly, trying to control his nerves. “I can do this.” He repeatedly told himself as he paced back and forth, seeing Aya and Lucy chatting. Lucy said she will set up the mood for them. She will give him a signal when he should come inside. A few seconds later, Gavin saw Lucia dropped her coat. That is the signal for him to come in. He slowly walked up to Aya’s store and opened the door, but Aya and Lucy were too busy talking Aya did not notice him open the door. He had a first-class seat of Aya’s statement… “Eew. Me? Like Gavin? That's gross! Seriously, he is just one of those flavors of the month. There is nothing deep going on between us. You know it was just for fun, for s*x. For me, Gavin Knight is just one of my boy toys. I don't like him one bit.” Aya said with conviction. She wanted to save her face and boost her ego.
