Welcome Gavin

1228 Words
Gavin and Veronica went to their office; it is a separate building. Located just on the other end of the garden. The structure is similar to the architecture of the entire mansion. It is all white and has this old rich vibe to it.  The moment Gavin stepped on it he instantly felt overwhelmed. There are a couple of monitors on one side of the room, with different news site simultaneously playing without a sound. There are computers with graphs colored green and red. Gavin knows a little about this since Lucia told him about it, but he never really understood it fully. “This is my work.” Veronica sat at her table and pointed at the monitors on the wall. She noticed the overwhelmed look on Gavin. “You see, my work involves not only trading stocks and stuff. I mainly rely on my reasoning and math skills. And if Lucia was correct, I think you have those too.” Veronica walked behind her desk and pulled out a laptop from the bottom drawer. Gavin accepted it, knowing it is a part of his training to become a billionaire, as Veronica said, although skeptical but weirdly enough, he is also hopeful that it might really work on him. “Thanks,” he muttered to Veronica. “This is your office,” Veronica pointed at the sleek desk beside her own table. “I’d like to work side by side with you so you can learn through observation too.” She suggested they will work together from now on. Gavin nodded in agreement. He preferred observing too, in fact if he could learn it all by just observing and asking only when he was on a dead end; that’s how he prefers it. Remembering how he did his best just to shorten his coaching with Lucia. “Great, then. Your laptop contains all the gear you will need to start. Explore them first. I will get back to you in about two hours.” Veronica sat in her chair. She wore her eyeglasses and focused on her work. She has a pen and a paper beside her, randomly jotting down notes from time to time. Gavin turned on his computer and explored the ‘gears’ Veronica talked about. He found a software that is calculating world news and turning it into predictions that they can use for trading stocks, foreign exchange, crypto currencies and commodities. He was not interested in such thing before but seeing the smile on Veronica’s face. It just might mean one thing; this is something profitable. Gavin is not the judgmental type of person. But as he was trying to make sense of Veronica’s actions, her desire to keep control of her money even after she’s dead is something that speaks volume of her personality. She is someone who values money over family. As she is willing to go great lengths like marrying him just so they cannot control her family. Gavin does not want to turn out like Veronica one day. She is filthy rich but lonely. He just wants to be enough for Aya, he wants to achieve his dreams and help people like him. Lift them up from whatever deep sh*t they are in. Come to think of it, if there was even just a single person who did that for him and the other kids in their place, the gang problem in that area wouldn’t have been as bad as it is now. He proceeded in exploring his laptop; he found a folder titled ‘games’. Gavin opened it and no it was no collection of RPG games; it was a collection of links to different betting games. His eyebrows drew in together. Growing up, he met a lot of people whose lives were destroyed by betting games. It probably has destroyed more families than drugs. If Veronica is using this too to earn, well, it makes little sense. Gambling is not something you can conquer unless you are lucky. Then again, Gavin is not the type of person who believes in luck; well, other than the fact that he feels lucky that Aya loves him back. “Good morning.” Gavin received a text from Aya. “Speaking of my angel…” Gavin thought and a sweet smile on his face reflected the happiness that Aya brings to his life.  “Good morning, sis.” Gavin replied as Ava. “I am doing the boldest step in my life yet. I will be very busy the next weeks or even months.” She said to Ava. Gavin was eager to know what Aya was planning to do. However, like before; as long as Aya is happy, he will be more than happy to help her out. “What is it sis? I can’t wait to hear it!” “I sold my home and store. I am moving in permanently in this old villa up in the mountains. It needs some renovations done. But I am overseeing everything so… I am excited!” She added. It brought an enormous smile to Gavin’s face that even his heart felt it. He feels proud that Aya is finally doing something productive other than sulking there thinking of him. Now she is making their special place extra special. “Wow, sounds like a meticulous plan. Good luck, sis!” He answered Aya. “I know, hope to have you here too when Gavin and I are finally back together.” Aya responded with the sweetest thing he read today. They said their goodbyes and Gavin went back to his work with more energy. Gavin went back to the betting game folders. He also found some lottery games from different companies, cities and towns. It is the first time for Gavin to realize that such games have different game plays. Furthermore, there was an interactive video explaining how math can be used to take advantage of flawed games. It lit up interest in Gavin as numbers comes to him so naturally; a complex formula was like a child’s play with him. He used a pen and a piece of paper and used the formula given. “Hmm, total number of balls and total winning numbers…. The chances are…” He murmured as he busied himself. Gavin did not even notice Veronica standing behind him. Veronica was smiling seeing Gavin put his mind into his work. He is truly something else, like what Lucia said; he is a great catch. Gavin is incredibly smart. He shows empathy to people who he barely knows. It is crazy, but he trusts people like me. She smiled just thinking about it. What the heck he also loves deeply. Gavin held on with his promise to Sofia even without communication or anything. “Sigh. If only I have more time to live. I might want and choose to love you.” She shook her head not wanting to accept the thought just entered her mind. It is something unacceptable to her. Not now, not ever, no time for love. Veronica reiterated to her drifting thoughts.  Her musing was cut short when Gavin finally noticed her standing behind him. “Ahem. Do you like what you see?” Gavin asked her with a mischievous smile. Veronica blushed, not expecting the confrontation of Gavin this early in their relationship.
