Twist of Fate

1276 Words
Gavin tried his best to think straight amidst the current stress he was experiencing. "Aya, please be okay. I'm coming for you." He repeatedly said to himself as he rode his bike roaming, trying to find his fiancee.  Gavin went to the bar to ask for help from the Queens, but they do not have an idea where Gerard may have taken her. "Please tell Don that Gerard took Aya. Also, please call the police. Aya could be in grave danger." Gavin took a metal pipe with him; he is taking anything that can help him rescue the love of his life. Gerard's guys surely have guns with them, and he only has a metal pipe with him it could be a useless tool but he would take what he could; it's Aya on the line. Gavin thought the border might be the place where Gerard could take Aya, since he was desperate to throw him out of Hudson. In full throttle, he reached the border in just a few minutes. He cared little about his safety. Aya is the only one in his mind right now. From a far he is seeing a white van and a couple of thugs seemingly waiting for him. He went down on his bike and hurriedly the group started pounding on him. Gavin is not new to street fights, he can take a beating and most especially he can beat one to pulp. This time, however, it is somehow different; it is not a fight between gangs; it is him versus the hooligans holding his fiancée captive. There is only one thing clear in Gavin’s mind right now. This is war. "Where is she? Where is my Aya?" Gavin shouted at the men in front of him while he carried the pipe with him.  One bulky guy spat on the ground and sneered at Gavin. "Oh, so you are the boyfriend. The one they assigned us to kill." He said as he charged towards Gavin with a close fist.  Gavin was fast enough to avoid the hit, and he used his weapon to hit his opponent on his neck. The bulky guy fell to the ground. The other men laughed mirthlessly, like the first guy was just a joke amongst them. Their next move meant all business three of them charged Gavin with brute force. Gavin was able to avoid some punches and kicks, he was also able to land some on his opponents, but it proved to be a lost cause. Punches after punches he made only drained his energy, but they are just too many for him how can he ever finish them all without getting finished first? Not even the metal pipe he brought could help him this time. All he wanted was to extend the time so police or Don’s group could reach them on time. Gavin’s pretty face is being destroyed beyond recognition. He is starting to feel dizzy the hit his head took might have been too much for him already. “Just how much longer can I handle it?” He thought to himself as he threw empty punches that no longer had the power to hurt his opponents. Gavin curled up into a ball and covered his head as he received simultaneous kicking all over his body.  He fell on his back; barely breathing he heard footsteps rushing towards him. He has given up, just waiting for his end without even seeing Aya."I am such a failure. Dying miserably not being able to rescue my princess." Gavin just stared blankly at the sky, waiting for his end.  Gavin felt too much pain all over his body that added assault did not hurt anymore. He could die anytime, he just want to hear Aya for the last time, to make sure she was safe... then he can leave the earth in peace.   “Gavin! Gavin!” The voice he longed to hear is finally here. He can barely see through his swollen eyes, but he is sure that it is Aya. Gavin felt Aya’s embrace, he felt her body trembling against his. Gavin feels Aya’s fear, he feels the same. The fear of uncertainty if they will both make it out alive, although the fact that she is alive is more than enough for now. “Don’t hurt him.” Aya begged the surrounding men. She used her own body to protect him. They instantly stopped when Aya embraced Gavin. “Please, no.. I love him. Don't hurt him,” Aya said it over and over. “You know how to make this stop Aya.” Gerard said as he puffed his cigarette before he flicked it to the pavement. He walked slowly towards Aya and crouched beside her. Gerard tucked Aya’s hair behind her ear. “This is your last chance.” He mumbled to Aya. "I don't think he would survive another round of beating." Gerard added. “Okay, I will go with you, just be sure Gavin will get through the border alive.” He said while in tears. Gavin tried to sit up. “No, no. I can do this.” He fell off balance as he tried to stand up. His will to fight off the goons for Aya was strong, even just for the last time, but his body was giving up on him. Gerard pulled Aya up from Gavin’s embrace. She sobbed, obviously hurting for what had become of their plans. “Baby, I love you.” She kissed Gavin before she let go of him. Gavin understands that this is the best for them at this moment. He could not protect Aya in his situation. And honestly, as long as he was this weakling with Aya, he could never keep her safe. “I love you, Aya. I will be back. I promise.” He said almost without a voice as he barely finished his sentence.  Gerard landed a foot on Gavin’s abdomen. That was the last thing Gavin remembered. He felt dizzy and his vision turned black. Just like when he first came to Hudson, now he is going out in the same fashion. Gerard’s men picked him up and placed him inside their van. With little care for Gavin, they threw him on the roadside of Victoria. They left Gavin for dead, completely disregarding his safety. It is as if he was just a road kill; his life not worth of anything. Aya uncontrollably cried. She can get Gerard crushed after this. But at the moment, she needed to save Gavin. Unknowingly, Gavin was also thinking of the same thing; Aya’s safety comes first. Gerard forcibly dragged Aya to his car. She struggled as she watched Gavin being thrown inside the van. “Is this the dreaded sorrow in exchange for the happiness we shared earlier?” Aya’s shoulder shuddered as her cries got louder. “bang!” Gerard fell on the ground shot on his head. It was the police; they took the incident as an active crime endangering Sofia White as reported by her brother.  Don ran towards Aya who was speechless. He covered her with a towel and led her to safety. Don tried his best to divert Aya's attention away from the lifeless body of Gerard.  He noticed that it extremely affected Aya. She can barely walk. Her knees went stiff because of the incident, her breathing became heavy. She wiped her face, and when she looked at her towel, all she saw was red. Splatters of Gerard's blood were all over her body. Her body tremors became more intense; just like when she first arrived in Hudson.
