Baby Steps

1107 Words
Aya woke up with a smile on her face. This is the first time in a long while that she had such high spirits waking up. She is determined to get Gavin back, one baby step at a time. If there is one thing that Aya learned in this ordeal is to make Gavin feel her sincerity first before offering herself back to him again. She knows that Gavin would outright reject her if she pushes herself to him again. Aya prepared the things she plans on bringing to Gavin’s home. She packed bunch of different meds that she did not see in Gavin’s kit. Aya thought Steven’s idea was a great conversation starter.  “ding” her phone alerted. It is their group chat. Steven’s message; “Hey, Aya our shop will open by next week. So Gavin might be a little busy. It won’t hurt if you could lend him a hand, and call us if you guys need more help.” The rest of them liked Steven’s message, indicating they were also willing to help. “I’ve never thought that you guys would be this detrimental to my love life. LOL.” Aya replied. "Get ready for me Gavin, 'Operation Get My Knight Back' is in full commence." She declared before she stepped out of her store. She walked her way to Gavin’s house. Aya wore her usual red headband, short denim skirt and blue top. She does not want to appear over the top. Aya saw Gavin busy in the garage area of the shop. She approached him with a smile. “Good morning, Gavin.” Aya greeted Gavin. Her visit took Gavin by surprise. “Good morning, Aya. What can I do for you?” He replied like a good salesperson. Aya chuckled at his response. “Don’t be too polite, your shop will not open till next week right?” She answered him. “Anyway, I just came by to drop you off these meds and maybe you can give me a few minutes of your time so we can... talk?” Aya took her chance. “Thanks, Aya. Sure, but you did not have to bring me anything.” Gavin was a little hesitant to accept Aya’s gift. This was exactly what Aya expected of him. “I know, but I wanted to. This is my way of thanking you for saving me. And also, I’m sorry.” Aya laid out her cards to Gavin in one go. He nodded, feeling guilty for making her do all these things for him. “Okay, then let’s bring them inside the office.” Gavin said in the coldest tone he could. He is getting a vibe from Aya that there is more that she wants to say to him.   Aya handed the small bag she brought for Gavin. “Thanks for this.” Gavin said as he accepted Aya’s gift. There was a brief, awkward silence between them. “Ahem.” Aya cleared her throat before she exposed her heart for her prepared speech. “Babe, I mean, Gavin. I now know about what Don did to you. I confronted him about it already. You know how much I want us to kiss and make love right now….” Gavin tried his best not to laugh at her botched up speech. “Damn, I meant kiss and make up.” Aya corrected herself, seeing Gavin about to burst into laughter. “I guess what I’m saying is, I’m ready to work hard to get your affection back, babe.” She finally was able to deliver her message. It left Gavin dumbfounded. Did the woman of his dreams just confessed her intention to chase him? “Aya, I’m not even worthy of all this. You have many other options. Don’t waste your time on me.” Gavin said and lowered his head. He honestly feels he will never be the best option for Aya. “I don’t care about other options; you are the only one that I want, Gavin.” Aya said in a low voice as she reaches out for his hand. “I know. I’ve hurt you before and I want to make up for my mistakes. I can wait for you Gavin until you fall for me again.” Aya said and threw out all her pride outside the window. Gavin was so touched by Aya’s words he wanted to tell her there was no need to do that because his feelings for her never disappeared. But he actually thinks Aya’s idea is actually good. They will have enough chance to get to know each other better, and if he falls deeper for her… He might even reconsider his stand. “Aya, I’ve told you this already. I have forgiven you. And if you insist… well okay I will let you do what you think is best for you.” Gavin said. “Oh, I would love to join in too. I mean Gavin, all is fair in love and war, right? So… I want to chase you too.” Jen’s loud voice resonated inside the office. Jen startled Gavin and Aya who were having a heart to heart talk. Aya sneered at Jen. She can’t believe how Jen just ruined her chances with Gavin again. “Are you for real, Jen?” She glared at Jen. "You don't even like Gavin! Hating me and liking him are two different things.  Jen entered the office on her right hand was a small basket full of fruits. “Of course not! From what I’ve heard, Gavin is a free man and I want to take my chances too!” She insisted and handed it to Gavin.  Gavin scratched his forehead because of the chaos unfolding before him. Nevertheless, he accepted Jen’s gift.  Jen looked in Aya's direction. "Don't think so high of yourself. I really like Gavin, and no amount of my hate for you will push me to pursue Gavin. Just my pure intention to be closer to him will do." Jen winked at Gavin. Aya wiped her hand clean on her denim skirt and then she slowly walked towards Jen. “Well, if that’s the case, may the hotter woman win?” She said and extended her hand to Jen. Jen accepted it, and in the middle of the two women was the flustered Gavin. A twist he did not expect; two beautiful women just declared war against each other to conquer his heart. *** “Ding.” Aya’s message interrupted the group chat’s silence. “Houston, Houston! We have a problem!”
