Pass

Aya could continue with her apology speech if it weren’t for Gavin being so heavy. “Gavin?” She asked him again and tapped his back. He did not respond and then he went too heavy for Aya to carry. The paramedics came to Aya’s aid. Gavin passed out. The crew took him to the ambulance and checked his vitals. He was fine, but there was a cut on the back of his head which required some stitches. A few minutes later, he regained consciousness and begged to be dropped off at his house instead of the hospital. “I will stay with you tonight. I can't let you suffer alone when I know it was because of me.” Aya said it directly to Gavin. “Hmm, no need, Aya. You need some rest too.” Gavin turned down Aya’s offer politely. Don walked over to get Aya away from Gavin. “He is right, Aya. You need to rest too.” Don held Aya’s arm. Aya just took away Don’s hand. “Gavin, please just this once, let me take care of you.” Aya pleaded to Gavin; his weakness. He can’t stand it when Aya begs for anything. He took a deep sigh and responded with a nod. Gavin hates himself for this, it’s like they programmed him to make Aya happy and nothing else. When they reached Gavin’s house, he opened the door for Aya. He also stood by the door like he was welcoming a guest.  This is Aya’s first time at Gavin’s home. It is a studio type layout with a modern and industrial design. She smiled, feeling comfort at the thought that Gavin was not sleeping on someone else’s bedroom floor. When you enter the house, the first thing you would see is the living room. It has a big black leather sofa and a glass coffee table. On the right side of the living room is the sixty-five inches smart LED Tv. They hung it on a wood room divider. Behind it is the bedroom area where Gavin’s bed is located. The space of his place is not too big, but every space served its function well. “I’m sorry. I don’t have any extra room for you, but I can sleep on the couch. Please make yourself comfortable.” Gavin was a little too polite and cold for Aya’s taste. She just nodded, giving him enough time to cozy up with her again. Gavin took a quick shower and prepared for bed. He saw Aya still sitting on the couch. Gavin sat beside Aya. He wanted this night to pass by as smooth as possible. “Aya, please move to the bed. I will sleep here.” Gavin requested to Aya. Aya held Gavin’s hand. “I’m sorry.” She said in a sincere tone. Gavin’s heart melted in an instant. But he wanted to appear strong for Aya. After all, he planned this night to be the last time he would bother her. “I’m sorry too.” He tried to keep his composure. He is not even sure why he is apologizing to Aya. Gavin noticed Aya’s eyes started to well up in tears. Gavin wiped Aya’s tears. She hugged him and sobbed. “Thank you for always coming to my rescue.” She said in between her sob. “I don’t know what would have happened to me if you did not come.” She added. Gavin patted Aya’s head to calm her down. “It’s nothing. Anyone who would have seen that incident will surely help you.” Gavin assured Aya that there was nothing special about what he did. “That’s not true.” Aya held Gavin’s face. “I just want to take care of you tonight. Please let me do it for you this time Gavin.” She said her magic words again without realizing how much of an effect it has on Gavin. He raised his hand to surrender and stood up to go to his bed so that Aya could sleep comfortably beside him. Aya fixed Gavin’s pillows and asked Gavin to lie there and rest. She saw his knuckles were swollen. She went down from the bed and took ice from the freezer. Aya covered the ice with a piece of cloth from Gavin’s drawer. Aya sat on the bed-side table near Gavin. Aya set the light to dim so that Gavin could comfortably sleep. “Aya, thank you for tonight,” Gavin said in his low voice. Aya smiled at him because they were finally having a proper conversation. “There is so much that we need to talk about, babe.” She took the courage to call him her babe again. Gavin moved his head to face Aya directly. “Yeah? Like what?” He asked her, not paying attention to the name she just called him. “Well, like I did not know you were such an awesome fighter. Now I can see that even a sweet lover like you can be such a ruthless fighter.” She chuckled while throwing shadow punches, imitating Gavin’s punches earlier. He smiled at her childish actions. “You know how I’d always go the extra mile for you.” He said straightforwardly. He did not mean to give Aya false hope, but even if just a friend, he would do it for Aya. Aya blushed at hearing his words. “I’m lucky. You came back for me even if I literally threw you out of the store earlier. By the way, did you need anything?” Aya was hoping that Gavin would save her the face of asking them to be together again. “Well, Aya… I went there to tell you that, I am accepting and respecting your decision. I will no longer pursue you. Let’s be casual with each other.” Gavin bared everything in one go. It hit Aya so hard she was not able to respond to him. It literally felt like her heart was caving in.
