Veronica looked at the disheveled look on Gavin’s face. She knew how badly Gavin wants to connect with Sofia. She reached for her phone in her pocket and handed it to Gavin. “Text or call her. We still have time before the plane takes off.” She said with a smile on her face.

Gavin accepted Veronica’s offer and took the chance to try to contact Aya. Surprisingly, he received an immediate response. However, it wasn’t what he expected. Aya is dumping him completely. It took a while before it sync in to him. He won't easily give in to Aya's wishes but there is nothing much that he can do at the moment. Gavin deleted the message and handed the phone back to Veronica.

“Seems like you did not get the answer you wanted.” Veronica commented as she accepted her phone back. She traced the emotions on Gavin's face. It was the familiar look on a person's face when you try to bury your emotions because you are hurting. 

Gavin nodded and stayed silent. A few minutes later, their eighteen hour long flight started and Veronica took the bed to sleep. Gavin, on the other hand, was fine with the comfortable reclining seats. Gavin’s mind was still in shambles. He did not even notice that he drifted to sleep.

Veronica has predicted this outcome. Gavin’s relationship with Aya will never be okay as long as they are playing on this ploy. The elite's circle is too small for them not to bump into each other. How can Aya pretend that everything is okay when they see them acting as an engaged couple? The relationship between Aya and her brother; Howie will also not help ease their situation.

Although she is not really knowledgeable of all the details about their breakup, the entire social circle was sure that it was because of the s*x scandal that broke out back then. Veronica laughed at herself, thinking of Gavin’s relationship when she feels shitty that she herself is too afraid to admit about her growing feelings for Gavin. “What a pathetic little liar.” She muttered to herself.

Gavin and Veronica checked in at a hotel just across the hospital. In this place, they are free. No one knows them according to their status. They blend well with the surrounding people. The hotel room Veronica booked is a two-bedroom suite. They went to their own rooms and freshen up for Veronica’s appointment.

They walked towards the hospital to shake off the jetlag. Gavin knows that they can't miss the doctor's appointment today as it was the last one available for the week. Gavin wanted to make light of the situation. He broke the silence with a very random question. “Isn’t it weird?” Gavin asked and scratched his head.

“What is weird?” Veronica did not anticipate this comment from Gavin.

“We are literally time travelers.” He said and chuckled, pointing out how they went back in time.

Veronica thought about it and realized they left Veronica the same date and time yesterday only to arrive at their destination on the same date and time. She laughed at Gavin’s train of thought. “Too bad we can’t go back far enough to fix our lives.” Veronica answered with a deep one.

She knows that the two of them could use that power if it was available. Veronica might have focused more on her health to the point that her illness was avoidable. But at this point, it is just wishful thinking. 

“Hmm, well yes. But we can always move forward.” He said, wanting to make Veronica feel better.

“Hahaha, that is easier said than done, darling. You know that.” She did not shy away from letting Gavin know that she was aware of his feelings.

He smirked at her. “Let’s not talk about me, I will get by. Let’s just focus on your tests for now.” Gavin said to Veronica. She bobbed her head in agreement. It is not require rocket science to understand that Gavin’s defense mechanism is up to hide his broken heartedness.  

“Okay, then be prepared. Today I will be up for a couple of tests; blood tests, spinal tap, bone marrow samples, and more. That would be for this week and the result will come in a week after.” Veronica warned Gavin of the troubles ahead.

Gavin understood the process would be long and difficult, but his stand remains. It would be worth it to go through it all to remind Veronica that her life is worth fighting for. Although if it were up to him, it was not even a question; it was a statement. Veronica indeed needs a second lease on life and he just has to help her realize that.

They both took a deep sigh as they entered the laboratory section of the hospital. The doctor greeted them and explained all the procedures that need to be done. Gavin finally understood them as the doctor was gracious enough to explain it to him. He signed as the guardian in any case of incapacitation of Veronica. If he was to be asked personally, the task of signing such is a tall order but Gavin also understands that it was the only option for Veronica.

Gavin felt sorry for Veronica when she underwent spinal tap. It looked too painful although she was under a local anesthetic; the size of that needle still was too scary for Gavin. Veronica, on the other hand showed how brave she is. He can't see a hint of fear in her. Come to think of it, Gavin is sure that Veronica wanted him to be here because it scared her to go through everything again alone. 

When they arrived back at their home for the next few weeks, Veronica sat in the living room. She was quiet and appeared dizzy. Gavin instantly attended to her and asked what she needed. Veronica just smiled at Gavin and asked him to sit beside her.

He obliged. Veronica squeezed his hand and smiled at him. "This day was not so bad because you were here." She said, while trying her best to stop her tears. 

Gavin now feels the fear and frustration Veronica tried to keep all along. He embraced her and patted her head. "It's okay. You can be yourself when you are with me. Share your burdens with me." Gavin convinced her. 

Veronica let out her emotions and cried her heart out. It is not every day that you find someone who is willing to be with you even at the lowest point in your life. Gavin is truly one of a kind, and Veronica honestly feels like she is undeserving of this man. 

 "Gavin, I have one request from you." She said as she wiped her tears.

"What is it? Just tell me, I will do it for you." Gavin replied without second thoughts..

Veronica replied in her serious tone. "No matter what happens, get back to Aya after this. And please don't ever fall for me."
