Confusions

Gavin's words made her heart flutter again. She hates to admit it, but she likes how it feels to know that someone backs her up after fighting alone for the longest time. Veronica wiped her tears and cleared her throat. She nodded at Gavin and asked him to bring her home. She wants to surprise him when they get home.  They rode the bike home, Veronica held on tight to Gavin. “Thank you.” She whispered to him. Gavin touched her hand on his waist. “No. Thank you.” He replied. It was a puzzle for Veronica, but she accepted it nonetheless. When they reached home, it caught Veronica off guard. She never expected something prepared for her. In the end, she was the one surprised and not the other way around.  “Did you do this?” She asked Gavin for confirmation. He nodded and smiled like it was nothing special. Veronica felt guilty that she did not even get to appreciate Gavin’s efforts. It is also the first time that someone did something for her like this. If she did not know that Gavin had Sofia in his heart; then she would have assumed that Gavin has feelings for her. “Let’s not put this to waste.” She said to Gavin. They shared the food Gavin prepared for her. She figured Gavin hadn’t eaten since he waited for her. Surprisingly, though, he ate like he was full. Very contrasting to the way he ate the first few times they ate together. “What?” Gavin knew Veronica was examining his actions. He kind of expected that from the way she laughed at him before when she saw him eat like he was always starving. While today, he is literally starving, but tried his best to follow Felix’s advice. He accepted his part to perform for Veronica, so he decided to play his part well and conform with the tips that could make his job convincing. Gavin knows Veronica noticed the subtle changes he did after his short training with Felix. For most parts, he knew what Felix taught him. It's just that he did not realize those little things were too important for the elite.  “Nothing,” Veronica and Gavin chuckled with her response. She likes this type of interaction with Gavin; he can truly make her days bearable. But these past few days, it was more than just bearable… It has been enjoyable. Something she never thought she will be able to do for a long time now. She held to her chest, as she realized her heart pounding just looking at Gavin eating properly. If there is one thing she would hate feeling right now? It is this one. Veronica knew she would have someone if not Gavin to act as her fiancé, but the way things had been going; she wants to regret her decision. “Hold on to your heart, Veronica. You can't fall for Gavin.” She said to herself, reminding to take a grasp of her reality. Gavin saw her clasp her chest. “Are you feeling okay?” He asked with a worried look on his face. Veronica nodded and gulp a glass of wine. She wants to drown herself tonight, tomorrow and the following days will be hard for her, she’s sure. Gavin took a glass and raised it to Veronica. He is not a fan of wines, but he wants to be with Veronica tonight. Gavin does not want Veronica to fight her demons alone. He knows how hard it is to be alone without support and he does not want Veronica to continuously feel alone especially in her current health condition. “Excuse me.” Veronica stood up and excused herself. She dialed her phone to call her personal secretary to book her and Gavin a flight tomorrow afternoon. Although she kept the part about their purpose of going out of the country for medical purposes, she is sure that rumors of her going out for vacation with a man would leak out. It isn’t her intention to spread the gossip, but she isn’t against it too. She needs these little rumors to build up the hype for her wedding. Veronica felt chills just thinking about her wedding with this man in front of her. It could have been the best plot she ever designed if only it was real… If only it would last. Veronica took the bottle of wine with her left hand and their glasses on the other. "Let's go there." She invited Gavin to the outdoor patio near the dining hall. Gavin took the bowl of pistachios as he followed Veronica towards the patio.  There is a two-seater lounge chair with a small coffee table at the center. He sat beside Veronica. They have definitely been comfortable with each other since Veronica would not mind them sitting too close. Veronica poured wine into his goblet and raised a toast. "You won." Veronica said to Gavin after she gulped her wine. Gavin's jaw dropped. He did not expect Veronica to decide on it this quickly. "We are going tomorrow afternoon. In the guise of a vacation," Veronica explained further. Gavin realized that this might be the start of the publicity of their relationship. He lowered his head down thinking of how Sofia might feel, but he knew he would get to his point, anyway.  "You still have time to back out, Gavin." Veronica said it to Gavin, the first time she laid out the option of backing out when he already earned his own money. He can go back to Aya and prove himself worthy of her to the White family. The confusion grew in his mind like the darkness creeping into the night. It was inevitable. To Gavin, leaving Veronica alone to go through all these did not seem like a viable option.  "No, it's okay. I've thought about this and, right now it is your health that is my outmost priority." He said it out loud without hesitation. "What the heck, Gavin! Don't say that!" Veronica scolded Gavin for his decision. She faced him directly. "Don't ever say that again. I don't want to feel like I'm the third wheel or something. I know Sofia is the reason you agreed to this in the first place. So please don't say those words just to make me feel better." Veronica slapped Gavin with the truth.  Gavin felt like a cold water was poured on his head, not because he was caught lying but because his feelings is betraying him. It is betraying his loyalty for Sofia. "I'm sorry. I don't mean to make you feel that way. But If there is something wrong with me now... it is that I am being too honest with my feelings."  Gavin lowered his head, embarrassed at admitting that his feelings were brewing for Veronica. His words touched Veronica, the confirmation that she wasn't just assuming and hallucinating that Gavin might be feeling something for her too.  She inched closer to Gavin and lowered her face to meet with Gavin's. Her heart was pounding real hard as their faces were barely a few inches away from each other. She can feel his breath on his skin. It felt all too real for her at this moment.  Gavin's eyes were drawn to her lips. It was too tempting not to get a taste of Veronica's supple lips. Veronica closed her eyes as Gavin touched her chin and moved it towards him. They opened their eyes simultaneously when they were interrupted by a loud voice.  "Veronica! What is the meaning of this?"
