Still trying to wrap my head around what I’d just witnessed, I shrank back behind the trailer as Dr. Mallick’s SUV rumbled past. My mind pivoted back to earlier in the week when I’d seen him talking to Nelson Trotter at the gate near Youth Oasis. And last night after the open house while sitting in my Jeep, I wondered, could it have been the taillights of the doctor’s vehicle that I’d seen speeding towards the Double G? I ran a hand over my clammy forehead. This was insane! None of it made any sense. What could his possible connection be with Nelson Trotter? Was the doctor part of the human-smuggling conspiracy?
