I rolled—or rather, skidded into the gravel parking lot at the Castle Valley Sun at exactly 11:55 am, exhaling a short sigh of relief when I did not see Thena’s vanilla-colored Mercedes. All right! I congratulated myself for arriving ahead of her. After leaving Lucinda, I’d mulled over every detail she had shared. I had taken a few minutes to check the Arizona map online and it did seem more than a little peculiar that the last sighting of her sister was two hours from Kingman in the opposite direction from her home.
