Danvon Arroyo loved this time of the day more than anything, resting from the worries of life to be showered with the loving, exuberant greetings of his children. But as his two other daughters now came through the door, Danvon found himself unexpectedly filled with mixed emotions.
Zarrina's face broke into a grin of childish glee as she bounded towards her father's waiting arms. Portia on the other hand, wore a serious expression as she bent respectively to kiss her father's cheek. Danvon remembered when she was still a little girl like Tinkerbell, cheerful and uncomplicated. Now she was like any other confused teen. Danvon studied his 13 year old daughter for a moment. Portia had pretty red eyes, but they did not glow, they burned. As for her twin, Zarrina was even more gentle, lovely and caring than his oldest daughter who was like an angel.
Because of her nice nature, she was too protected by her twin that he was so sure Portia couldn't breathe without her sister.
The cottage door creaked open and in came Basillia and Tinkerbell, balancing the basket between them. Another figure followed closely behind.
Though the chill wind blustered through the door, seizing every opportunity to drive out warmth wherever it could, Dessa's appearance radiated sunshine to her father.
"Hello Papa," said Dessa as she closed the door behind her, a smile twitching at the corner of her pale lips. Her voice was not loud, yet very clear, musical with the melody of a chilly and invigorating breeze rather than that of a cathedral choir "And Mama".
"You'll catch your death staying in the open for so long", scolded Latitia smilingly, already forgetting her former anger in the protective instinct to mother her baby chicks. "Could you not see the storm coming?".
"It was not so bad," replied Dessa mildly "I love the smell of the approaching clouds. And I'll have to give up my afternoon walks, the first snows are not far off. I must be outside now whenever I can".
"Oh well, supper is ready. So come everyone to the table".
Danvon smiled, taking his own plate of hot soup, and he suddenly saw what he dreaded the most, something that was bound to happen. Lights outside the cottage and sounds of stomping excited feet. The village burst into a cry as women where shouting and men groaning. The sound of swords striking glass and hacking at furniture, of paintings being slashed and children being stabbed to death. Danvon stood up immediately, his wife and children were already up and about, no one caring about the huge pot of tasty brown soup.
"Latitia, gather the girls and run!". He screamed before running out, his eyes burning with the urge to kill. Latitia didn't need to be told twice, picking up various weapons from odd places, she handed them to the girls, her eyes tearing up. These men were Royall's men and the were not ordinary, half demons the were called.
The had succeded in killing vampires, lycans, witches and even guardian angels, what more a little human village like theirs.
Running and running, but it was of no use, Danvon was killed in the blink of an eye, even though he succeded in killing most of the soldiers, his body was sent flying and landed right in front of his fleeing family, stopping them in their tracks.
Latitia broke down and knelt before her dear husband. Her tears pouring out nonstop. The girls too started tearing up, kneeling before their dead father and praying for his soul.
The soldier whose sword was still plunged into Danvon's heart walked towards them with an ugly smile on his face, followed by a group of soldiers.
Pulling the sword out of Danvon's chest, he smirked "Finally the fourth sin is dead. How about you angel?, Don't worry, after you die, your pretty daughters will be well taken care of".
Latitia saw the wide-eyed r****e and smelt the stink of sweat and blood.
"You!" She said, her voice contemptuous "Vile dog, I curse you".
"It's Guid. And I am already cursed". Saying this, he slit her throat with a corny laugh.
The girls stared at him, their eyes filled with hate.
"Guid Blyton. To never forget the name", All the girls murmured at the same time, sending chills to the soldiers. Zarrina rose to her feet and drew the sign of the cross. Her fingertips touched her forehead, her heart, her left shoulder and
the right. She finished with her fingertips touching her lips. "Into thy hands.....".
A bright light shone around all the girls and before Guid could raise his sword, they disappeared.
"They left". Guid said clenching his fists.
"Come on", One of the soldiers bellowed. "Let's look for them. They are only just guardian angels, the couldn't have gone far".
"It's of no use, the are not just angels. You must never forget that the part of a sin. They went far but we would meet one day".
"Yes Commander".
