After getting out of the onsen with Anita we went back to our respective rooms to rest up for the night. We planned on visiting Gion tomorrow. Gion is Kyoto's most famous Geisha district, located around and it is filled with shops, restaurants and ochaya (teahouses), where Geiko (Kyoto dialect for geisha) and maiko (Geiko apprentices) entertain. I learned from the catalog at the Ryokan, and a bit of research online, that Geisha (or Geiko) are professional entertainers who attend guests during meals, banquets and other occasions. They are trained in various traditional Japanese arts, such as dance and music, as well as in the art of communication, and for one, they are not considered prostitutes who sell their body for a living.
