Vernon's head suddenly felt hot, he didn't have a lot of options, scratch that, he didn't have any other option. It was either this or the alternative and the alternative would still be the same whether Boy's magic worked or not.
If it worked, he was good to go, if it did not it would basically be the same as walking to the room while she was in there so the consequence would be the same. If he took the risk and it worked, fine. If it ended up not working, it basically changes nothing and he would be back to square one.
Vernon already decided but he still did not have the courage to take a step until Boy pushed him. "No matter what you do, make sure I am touching you at all times."
He nodded, what else could he do? He could taste his heart at the back of his throat, he took the next step and he could swear he felt a faint shawl around him. He stretched out his hand but he couldn't quite touch it.
"What are you doing?" Boy scolded him, they were almost at the door as they had basically run down the pathway.
"Trying to open the door," he lied. "Won't she hear the door open?" He asked as he touched the doorknob scared and worried about how hard the plan was sure to blow up in his face.
"Last night did you hear the door open?"
Vernon's eyes widened as a cold climbed up his back and he shook his head. Creepy! No wonder, a lot of people didn't like Boy, he thought. The idea that some could walk into your room and you would be unaware of it was alarming.
He swallowed as he prepared to open the door, he was running out of time. The longer he spent out, the weirder it would seem if he just popped into the room.
He opened the door and immediately Madame Rachel yelled, "Vernon!" Vernon felt all the blood drain from his body and he immediately went limp.
"Don't fall," Boy yelled, panicking a little as he closed the door in Vernon's place. "You can't leave the door open for long. She would notice"
Boy's voice snapped him out of it and he realized Madame Rachel did not see him; she had just happened to yell at that exact moment. He sighed in relief as he returned to his senses.
"Quick, let us get into the restroom," Vernon said, the thought had popped into his head at just that moment. That was the only place he hoped she had not had the time to check just yet and he realized he had not thought about how he would reveal himself when he got back to the room. He opened it, got in, and immediately closed it.
"Alright," Boy said. "As soon as I take my hand away, you'll be visible again.
Vernon nodded, he noticed he did not have a lot to say whenever Boy talked about his magic. He closed his eyes tightly as he felt Boy take his hand off his shoulder and he felt the slight feel of a light material lift off him, if he had not been paying attention, he definitely wouldn't have noticed.
"Can I go now?" He asked.
"Shhh!" She can hear you now.
"Oh sorry," he whispered and quickly poked his head out of the door. "Madame Rachel?"
"Vernon!" She yelled out again, this time there was a slight fright as she called out his name. "What are you doing there?"
Vernon did not know how to answer because he was in the restroom. What else do people do in here? There was also the fact that he just got him, so it took him a while to come up with an answer as he had not been expecting the question.
"Nevermind," she immediately threw out. "Are you done using the restroom?" She asked again and threw her face away.
"No, I only came out because you were calling." He said with a straight face and bent further as if holding his stomach.
"Oh, okay. I will let you get back to it." She said in a rush and headed for the door. "I will be back with your lunch." As soon as she said that Vernon heard a loud bang as she closed the door a little too forcefully.
Boy immediately burst into laughter, "You do look like you need to spend a couple more minutes in here." He chuckled some more and pushed the door all the way to the end and walked out.
"Shut up! Thank you though, I never would have been able to get out of that without your help." Vernon muttered, walking behind him.
Boy blew air out of his mouth, "Bleech, no need to thank me. You needed my help and um it was something in my power, so yeah why wouldn't I help you?"
"You didn't have to, you could have told me to go hug a tree. Wait, how come I know you're in front of me even though I can't see you?" Vernon asked, frowning. He couldn't see anything but for some reason, he could tell when he was close enough to step on Boy.
"Because I want you to, somehow I ooze out a presence that lets anyone nearby know I'm here but I have to do it consciously. This is usually different from when you guess I am there because I spoke to you. I actually need Mana to do this. This, however, I don't require Mana."
The instant Boy said those words, Vernon lost Boy's presence. He couldn't send anything from Boy. Vernon stretched his hand out as he tried to find Boy but he came up with nothing. "Where are you?" He asked.
"Right here," Vernon could hear his voice but couldn't see anything. Boy chuckled, "You are actually touching me but for some reason, your senses do not register this."
