The look that appeared on Levisus face was enough to shut anyone up but not Captain Robbin, instead, her smile widened and she chuckled at the fact that her words got to him. For half a second he thought she thought he would attack her back but he didn't.
"What if it doesn't work and I discover I've wasted my time?" He asked, looking at her. She was a great Captain but she wasn't known for her bright ideas.
"Well, I guess we will figure it out when the time comes for now all you need to do is guide him and it's just for today." She turned to Vernon now as she spoke. "We don't have time to let you waste on a group, remember I said you only get one week. Tomorrow I'm moving you to a new group so…" she turned back to Levisus. "You're not stuck with him, he is just starting with you."
Levisus nodded, sensing that he was about to be dismissed. "Do your best Vernon and Levisus if you don't have any more questions, you may leave with your student."
He bowed and began to walk away without saying a single word to Vernon. "Your teacher is going, Vernon. Aren't you supposed to follow?" She drawled.
"Yes!" Her words unrooted him from the spot he had stood for over fifteen and he ran after Levisus who, unfortunately, for Vernon had really long strides and had absolutely no intention of waiting for him so Vernon found himself running like his life depended on it.
He arrived a full minute after panting like a dog. He bent over as he tried to catch his breath but not before he saw Dev waving at him from the corner of his eyes and Levisus glare. At least he knew what this group was, wind but he could tell he was in for quite the treat.
He wondered what the rest of the groups were and how many they were overall, he knew at least three being wind, fire, and water but he had no clue what the rest were as they were far away from him and he had too many things on his mind to try and study them.
He suddenly realized that he had not seen Nevil, he wasn't in the fire group and he sure wasn't in the wind group either, he would have noticed but that wasn't surprising after all Nevil's magic was none of those things.
"Meet Vernon!" Levisus announced. Vernon stood to his full height at Levisus' words. "He would be here to observe you do your magic. Try to be impressive." He adjusted the glasses again just as his students let out an excited scream.
They looked to be around fifteen in number. Vernon could recognize five, they were in the same room as he was but the rest he couldn't place with most of them being girls.
They all stepped out one after the other in no particular order to show what they could do. The first person to step out was a girl, she said her name before she started. She didn't do much, just blew away the table that Levisus had placed in front of her.
It must have been impressive because everyone clapped and she looked glad. If Vernon were to guess her age he would probably say six and he wouldn't be wrong. She stepped aside and somebody else stepped up.
It was one of the boys that he shared a room with, Vernon could remember his name and he wasn't about to try too hard to remember. His was actually impressive and he flung the table away and was able to float a few inches off the ground. Everyone clapped as usual as he went away.
Vernon could only watch in awe as each of them displayed their magic. He felt envious even about the one that could even blow the table away. He stared as hard as possible, not wanting to miss any moment as he was afraid he would miss what would help him with his magic.
It was finally Dev's turn to show what he's got. He was so excited that as soon as it was his turn he rushed to the stage and said his name as loudly as possible. He stretched out his hand and Vernon assumed he was about to blow the table away but he didn't do that.
Vernon noticed that the table began to shake, then it slowly began to spin packing dust and everything around it. The crowd gasped and stepped back. The table spun for over a minute before it came to a stop. The rest of the group immediately went crazy but Dev wasn't done.
He pushed his hand downwards and lifted off the ground almost two feet high. He immediately began a downward descent but held at one foot and just floated around for a few seconds.
When he finally landed and everyone clapped even Levisus clapped. "Who taught you that?" Levisus asked.
"I have been practicing," Dev announced proudly. "And once I knew what I had to do, the rest became easy. Though it took a while to get the object to move in the direction I wanted. I'm basically practicing to make a tornado, maybe not as big as the tornado but at least a whirlwind." He blabbed on.
"That's great and this is what I encourage, practicing in your own free time. You know what happens to the best student." Levisus replied and it was on the tip of Vernon's lips to ask what it was the best student got but before he could say anything Levisus said, "Next!"
Vernon spent the next few minutes watching the rest show their powers but none were as good as Dev's. "Your turn," Levisus said to him after the last had displayed their magic.
"What?" Vernon muttered, hearing Levisus words but refusing to understand them.
"Yeah, you heard me. I said your turn." Levisus repeated starting down at Vernon in a way that said he couldn't dare disagree.
