CHAPTER NINETEEN

However, no splash because just as the water was about to touch the ground, the girl in question got a hold of herself and the water vanished. Vernon didn't know to take cover so he had his eyes on her the entire time. One second she lost control and the huge water was coming down and another second there was no trace of there being water in the first place. Vernon was amazed, it was like magic.

"Poppy!" Cavin called. "That was awesome. Vernon watched the girl in question glow at the teacher's words. "Though I must scold you for not holding out and disrupting the rest of the girls, however, you stopped that splash real good."

It was at this point that Vernon noticed that the rest of the girls no longer held out their water ball in front of them. They were all gone. Albeit concentration was important, the slightest distraction can ruin a good work.

"That's all girls, you did really well, especially you May!" The girl next to Vernon whose moves he had been studying smiled sheepishly and kept her head down as Cavin praised her.

"Okay girls, step aside so the next line up can step forward. Poppy you too, try to get some rest. You would do this sequence all over again when everyone is done but don't worry it won't be anything strenuous.

Poppy nodded and they all stepped aside. Vernon immediately found a good spot where he could stare at the group without one person blocking the other. On this line up, they were four in number with Jay being the only boy.

"Alright, girls and boys. You may begin." Cavin announced.

Vernon took one look at them and he could tell that this line up was the most experienced of the two, there was also the very obvious fact that they were older. It took them mere seconds to make their water balls big and boy was it huge, making May's seem like child's play.

The best part was they held it as long as Cavin asked them to. It was splendid that Vernon found himself clapping at the end of it all. Of course, he got glowered at by Jay but it was still a great show.

The next line up quickly stepped forward as Jay's line up stepped away. A repeat ensued and it didn't take long for Vernon to figure out, line two was the best at making water balls. Though they held out just as long their water balls weren't as huge.

The line up trial ended and Poppy was up again. Vernon could feel her nervousness from where he stood. She stepped out rubbing her palm on her clothes. She didn't look older than five.

Her hair was tied up, well all the girls' hair was tied up. Vernon figured this was a way to prevent their hair from getting in the way. His locks were in a ponytail too but this was out of habit not that he had been told to tie it like so.

She looked at Cavin with worry in her eyes as she waited for her orders. "Are you ready, Poppy?" The girl nodded but she looked far from ready. "Relax poppy, take a deep breath, take your time. This is nothing unusual, okay?"

She nodded again and shut her eyes as she took a deep breath. The next time she opened them even Vernon could feel their intensity. "Alright, Poppy. Show us what you've got."

She nodded again before stretching out her hands. She started slow and she started small. Her balls steadily increased mass and finally, she stopped. It was bigger than the last one she made. Vernon braced himself, feeling a little scared for her.

However, she held out and didn't waiver until Cavin issued the last command, "That's all, Poppy you may disperse the water ball." Only then did she show how tired she was by falling forward and gasping for breath. Her legs and knees were the only things holding her up.

"How do you feel, Poppy?" Cavin asked and approached her.

"Tired."

"But you did good." Cavin praised.

"Thank you, Cavin." Vernon immediately noticed she didn't add Teacher whereas the students of the wind group never referred to Levisus by just his name.

"My pleasure, Poppy. " Cavin then turned to face the rest of the group. "That is all for today but we still have a couple of minutes before lunch but I'm a little afraid we probably won't be able to finish the next routine by then so, I'll move it to after lunch. Right now, you can either take a break or practice whatever routine you want to try."

"Okay!" Cried out from the students. However, only Vernon took a break and Cavin came to join him where he sat on the bench as the group played around with water. That was the only way he could call it. Yes, they were training but they were mostly splashing each other with water. Dodging running around, it looked very fun but Vernon knew better than to join, he would just be a hindrance.

"You look like you want to join," Cavin said to him.

He shrugged, "It kind of looks fun." He could feel the teacher's gaze on his face.

"I will say," Cabin glanced at the group for just a few seconds. "Watch it, Jay!" Cavin called out. "Or you'll be stuck on this bench with me."

"I am sorry, Cavin."

Cavin looked away without acknowledging his apology and returned her attention to Vernon. "So, how do you feel? Do you think you're about ready to unlock your magic and do you think it's water?"

Vernon sighed at Cabin's question and then slowly shook his head. "I feel no different and I'm afraid I won't be able to unlock my magic any time soon."

"Don't look so defeated," she muttered and slammed her hand against his back, snapping him out of the dejected mood. "This is just the second group, I'm sure something will turn out soon."

Vernon glanced at her, hoping she would be right. He needed her to be, he couldn't have been taken away from hope just to be useless here. It didn't feel right.

She didn't look too old and now that he has a closer look at her, she looked like a teenager or at most someone in their early twenties. Her hair was short and bounced around the sides, giving her a boyish look.

Her facial features at first glance make it hard to place which gender but upon closer look, it wasn't hard to discern coupled with the fact that she was petite and had a feminine flow to her. It was just her style of dressing that threw one off for a few minutes.
