Chapter Fifty-Nine
Two weeks later, Alex arranged for a family dinner. They gathered and ate, and then Alex brought up something some of them had been thinking about.
“I wanted to get us together to talk about what we’re going to do. I asked Kevin and Penny to join us because they’re family too. Maybe in a different way but still family. Is that okay?”
Everyone from Shelter 87 nodded.
“We’d very much like to leave here. The new society out west sounds exciting. David is leaving soon to connect with those that have already headed out. Even more, now that we know it is still there, we’d want to go back to our home in Indiana.”
Lucy’s stomach churned at the thought.
“Unfortunately, Marie isn’t up for either of those trips—”
“Dad, if that’s what she wants, we can make it happen,” Sam in
