Chapter Eleven
The bus departed and was soon on a highway and moving quickly. Lucy pulled out her phone to send another update to her parents. She was surprised to see that she had no service. Shortly, she heard hushed conversations on the bus. Others had also noticed that their phones weren’t working. She poked her brother gently, interrupting his discussion with Ray.
“What?”
“Check your phone. Do you have service?”
Pulling it out, Sam showed Lucy the screen. She smiled drily. There was no reason to confiscate phones when they could jam them.
She put the phone away. “I want to thank you for helping out back there and taking a walk to get pizza with the others. I know you would’ve rather stayed for the conversation, but I didn’t want everyone hearing it. I know you understand that.”
