CHAPTER SIXAmalita looked round the ballroom and thought that nothing could be more attractive and enchanting. The women in their beautiful gowns looked exactly like swans. Their tiaras glittered as they were swung around the room in the arms of their partners to a dreamy waltz. Amalita had put on her mother’s tiara, thinking that it would make her look older. She well knew that the Marquis admired her and he had insisted that both she and Carolyn should be standing beside him as he received his guests.
