Chapter 4: Followed

534 Words
"So how's volunteer work going ?" The wind blew my hair into my face hiding my shocked expression. I took her hand in mine. "Babe, its your birthday. Can we talk about something else ?" Yeah did i forget to mention that Sher and I are an item. We've been dating for about 4 months now. "I know but I'm still going to spend most of the night with you so what's the harm in asking about your life ?" Giggling I squeeze her hand. Sheryl has always been caring about my health and well being. Protective but in a mama bear kinda way. She wouldn't give up so I had to answer her. "Donating blood is going well. Gave a pint yesterday and the children at the orphanage are getting better care especially in their home schooling." Licking her lips, she asks me a weird question. "Your blood is pure right ?. No sickness, issues or anything ?...You know so they aren't draining you for nothing." I stop walking, look her dead in the eyes trying to figure out why she asked me that. My brain says I'm overthinking it. She's just worried about me. Cupping dark cheeks I tell her, "Its pure, no one in my family bloodline ever gets sick as far as I was told. You know that. Don't be worried. I'm fine." Only Sher knows I give blood. If my parents found out I was giving blood or that I'm bisexual they would flip. Probably make us move again. We kiss and she deepens it. Butterflies fill my belly just like the first time I saw her at the cafe. The kiss breaks and we head for the fair. We get on the rollercoaster, then the ferris wheel and on something they call 'The bone crusher'." Believe me, the name was greatly exaggerated. Feeling dizzy I stop in my tracks and bend over. That's when I notice the car. It's not the fact that it's cherry red(most cars here aren't) that makes it stand out. It's the fact that I had seen it before. Near my house. Sheryl's house too. Now that I think of it also across the street from school. Fear strikes me. Are we being followed or was it just me. "Sher I have a bad feeling. Maybe we should go." She taps me and smiles. That smile laced with honey. Anyone could say yes to her because of that. "Why, its just getting good. Don't tell me your scared. We already went on the 'bone crusher'.". She air quotes it. Someone bumps into me and I have to grab her top to show her I'm serious. I point to the car but it's gone. "That car...what, it was right there. I swear." Sheryl sighs and hugs me. "Luna Audrey Smith, if you feel we need to go say the word and we will. Netflix and chill ain't bad." Then she winks at me. I know I can always count on her. Smiling I nod and we head back to her house. In the cherry red car; Luke: We got her. Google man: Good, get her as discreetly as possible. Leave no traces. Luke: Yes sir.
