Chapter 8: Begin

Shock. Who could have suspected them. All their drugs and vaccines. Is this How they got them ?. They were always secretive to the press about the way they did what they did but we all thought that they didn't want their competitors to know.

This was messed up.

Remembering Sher, I search for her. She wasn't in the hall.

I turn back to the screen filled with dread. What if she didn't make it. Way if I don't.

All our memories, those were the best times of my life. My train of thought gets interrupted by the woman on the screen.

"So these are the rules for the 30 of you contestants."

So I was close to it. Have to improve on that.

"Rule number 1. No killing one another. That's just wrong."

I roll my eyes. Says the woman trying to kill 30 of us in form of a game.

"Rule number 2.No trying to escape. Trust me you can't. We have precautions in place.

Rule number 3.You have to complete each task in the set timeframe you are given. There are 5 levels therefore 5 tasks. Failure to do so will result in your death.

Last rule. Do your best so as to not corrupt the data we would get from this experiment. Do not hold back.

How would they know if we did. It's not like they could read our minds.

Murmurs filled the room. My hand raised instinctively, out of curiosity to ask a question.

"What precautions do you have in place exactly ?"

Purple haired girl looks at me sizing me up.

Sandra hesitates then smiles with a wild glint in her eyes.

"You all have nanobots in your system.They were administered when you were put into your rooms and no you can't get them out." Referring to a guy who just started scratching his arms aggressively.

"If you disobey a direct order, the nanobots release a toxin that would kill you in a minute. Plus they also act as trackers. We have this among other security measures. I hope your satisfied."

My eyes widen at hearing the poison but I nod and she continues.

"How about you all see the sponsors for this experiment."

The white walls around us turn transparent and I see 4 rows that surround the hall. People full the stands. Their faces couldn't be seen no matter how much I squinted. I could see their bodies but not their faces.

What technology were they using to do this.

Someone cleared her throat so we all stopped staring and turned back to the screen.

"All of you will be moved to another room where you will be given your first task. Remember the rules."

The doors open and we follow the people who took us to the main hall in the first place.

Luke sees me and motions me to follow. Seems like we all have caretakers in a way. We enter a less bigger hall and luke leaves. A minute later the doors shut and now we can only hear a voice from non existent speakers. It was Sandra.

"For your first task you will be released into an enclosed forest. You are to survive 2 days in there without any food or water. Anything in the forest can be eaten also."

I scoff. Do they really think starving us for 2 days helps their experiment. No one would die so their loss.

"Oh I almost forgot, you also have to survive enhanced wild animals in there. Ps their really hungry and they've been put on a human flesh diet."

She says they with a straight face. Like this is every Monday for her.

"The timer is set for 2 days. When it runs out, those of you that survive move on to the next level. Good luck and Godspeed. "

The metal doors before us open before anyone could react and we forcefully walk into the forest. Even with the nanobots they had guards with guns.

The doors close abruptly and I see a timer in the sky. Are we in a dome ?. It's shows 48 hours.

"Begin."

It starts to count down.
