Chapter Six

Tobias POV When we got to the restaurant I climbed out of the back seat. I took a breath before I stepped forward and opened Delilah’s door, even standing outside she smelled delectable. I can tell that she’s nervous as she reaches up to grab my hand that I had extended for her to grab. I wince at that thought, knowing it's because of our past. The sensation she gives me as her small hand fits perfectly in mine is almost consuming. She slowly looks up and her eyes meet mine. Wow, her eyes are so many different shades of green and brown surrounded by a ring of gold. I was getting lost in the pool of colors. Thoughts I shouldn’t be having about my brother's best friend started to flood my brain. I could look into her eyes for the rest of my life and never get tired of swimming in them. I barely heard her apologizing. I slowly moved her hand to my bicep, “there’s nothing to be sorry for.” Her arm fits perfectly in mine, and standing next to her makes my heart skip a beat. I’ve never had a feeling like this before. It’s so confusing, she can’t be my mate. I feel like I should know. When we got into the restaurant I saw my mom stand and open her arms. Delilah let go of me to hug her and for a second I felt empty and cold. We all walked over to the table and sat down. My mom, Delilah, and Zander were all talking about something, but I couldn’t get into the conversation. I'm lost in my head. All of these feelings and emotions are confusing and strange. I don’t know whether to shy away from them or take a leap, embrace them, and never look back. When the waiter came back with the food we ordered I was snapped back to reality. We all had steak with various sides the way we always do. I looked up at the same time Delilah took a bite of her potatoes. I don’t know why but the way her perfect lips slid off the fork made me need to catch my breath. It was like the world slowed perfectly at that moment. She smiled at the conversation they were having which could light up this whole room ten times over. Her phone started to ring, pulling her from the conversation and I could see a look of panic flash across her face before she pushed it away. I felt her panic, something was wrong. She took one more bite of her steak looking at us all before standing and telling us she needed to go, she explained to us how her mom got hurt and tried to reassure us that she was okay. I could still feel her panic like it was my own. Zander reached out to grab her hand and offer her a ride. The pack doctor lives about half an hour from here. She politely declined and decided to run. I couldn’t just let her run so I followed her and Zander out to the parking lot. When I got out there he was standing behind her making sure no one could see her undress. She must be shifting. She bent down to take off her shoes giving me a view of her perfectly round butt. I could replay the image of watching the dress slowly fall down her frame, getting stuck on her curvy hips and thick thighs causing her to shimmy out of it. I could feel myself getting hard just staring at the sight of her in the matching black lace bra and panties. I didn’t think I could fall for her more until I saw her as a wolf. She is pure black. Not a shade, not a spot, not a different hair. I got chills when I saw her turn around. Her eyes are the most vibrant gold I have ever seen. Even at night, they seem to glow. She nodded at Zander and ran, I couldn't move. I have never seen a wolf more uniquely magnificent. She is beautiful in every way. The rest of the night I kept thinking about her and I couldn’t seem to shake this sense of panic mixed with emptiness. I hope her mom is alright. We took our time finishing dinner, I occasionally joined the conversation but there was so much to think about it was hard to stay interested. When we finished Zander and I stood so we could hug our mom. The sense of panic I felt was starting to fade. Hopefully, that means everything is okay. “I love you, Mom,” I said, gently kissing her cheek “Zander needs to drop off Delilah’s clothes from earlier so we will meet you at home.” “Okay, is everything alright honey? You didn’t talk much at dinner.” “Yes, just a lot on my mind tonight. I’m sorry Ma I should’ve been more present at dinner.” “That’s okay dear, I’m just glad we could have dinner together. What do you think of Delilah?” I honestly don’t know what to say. My emotions are clouding my brain. “She’s amazing, I can see why Zander is best friends with her.” My mom gave me a smile and a hug and headed out to her car as Zander and I headed out to his. On the drive to Delilah’s house, I got a rush of adrenaline and hope. I can’t wait to see her again. I’m not sure why but she draws me in with just a simple breath. When we pulled in front of her house we noticed that all the lights were off she must not be home yet. Zander found a piece of paper, wrote a note, and took her clothes to her doorstep before walking back to the car. “What did you write?” I asked Zander as he climbed back into the driver's seat. “I let her know I’m gonna be at the training grounds at 6 tomorrow morning and to text me when she gets home so I know she got home safe. I’ll ask how her mom is doing when she gets ahold of me.” “Okay, let me know. I saw how worried she was so I want to make sure she is okay too.” I said to him, the drive home felt pretty quick because, in a blink of an eye, we were pulling up to our house. We headed inside, Zander went to his room and I headed into my office to finish up some paperwork. Before I knew it an hour had gone by and I hadn’t heard from Zander if Delilah made it home. I headed upstairs and knocked on his door. He must have been sleeping because he didn’t answer me. I peeked my head in and yep sure enough he crashed out. I didn’t bother waking him. I remember him saying he was gonna get to training early tomorrow. I’ll just have to hope she made it home safe. The next week seemed to fly by. I finished the work week which had a full schedule of meetings. I had a couple of late nights doing paperwork which was incredibly hard to focus on with Delilah constantly being on my mind. I was able to spend the weekend with my family. It was Sunday now and I started making my way into our kitchen. I overheard Zander talking to my mom about planning a surprise birthday party for Delilah. Her birthday is on Friday. My mom of course was over the moon about getting to plan one for her. I overheard them discussing a theme, cake, lights, and the works. I walked away, party planning is not my forte. The following week was just like the last, it always is. Full of meetings and late nights of paperwork. It seemed to take forever until Friday. I can’t wait to see Delilah again. She had me completely in a trance without even knowing it.
