Zander’s POV
I made my way home last night after dropping off Delilah. It broke my heart to see her like that. We’ve been friends for so long that it hurts seeing her down. She’s usually such a cheery person and we all know she loves her birthday. However for those of us without a mate, it’s just a reminder. Thinking about it always makes me wonder who mine will be, as Delilah says I’m a hopeless romantic.
After I dropped her off, I made my way home. She doesn’t live too far from me so the drive was quick. It was pretty late by the time I got home. I remember grabbing a snack and heading up to bed.
First thing when I got up this morning I sent Delilah a text wishing her a happy birthday. I hope she has a fantastic day before I get to surprise her tonight. Since I’m planning this party for Delilah, Tobias made sure to give me the day off from training. He’s been acting strange since we had dinner with my mom and Delilah. Anyway, I got in the shower. Taking my time because I’m always sore from training and soaking them always helped. When I got out I walked over to my dresser to grab a pair of blue jeans and a T-shirt. I sat on the foot of my bed and put on a pair of sneakers.
I made my way downstairs to find my mom in the kitchen with decorations covering the whole island. She does go all out for parties.
“Good Morning Zander. Can you come here and give me a hand” She must’ve heard me come in cause she didn’t even look up.
“Of course Mom, good morning to you too. What can I help you with?”
“I have a lot of things that need to be hung up”
“Yes I can do that, is it okay if I grab a quick bite first? It’s only 10 o’clock you know.”
“Yes, eat something sweetie and I know it’s only 10 but I get stressed, well in a good way when it comes to planning parties. I just need everything to be perfect for her.”
“Thank you Mom for doing this for me. Well her? No us” I gave a big belly chuckle.
“Of course, she’s family.” She said with a big smile.
I walked over and grabbed a skillet. I quickly mixed up some scrambled eggs and toast. I scarfed it down before washing my plate and putting it away. We have a housekeeper but there’s no reason for us not to pitch in around the house too.
I found my mom starting to decorate the living room. She had already set up a table with a happy birthday tablecloth on it. I could also see she pulled out the ladder so I could use it. She separated all the decorations. Lights in one pile, streamers in another, and another one was a bunch of silly costumes for pictures. There was even a pile of miscellaneous things that I’m not even sure my mom knows what it is.
I could see a second table that was made up to hold the food for the night, she had it dressed with a tablecloth covered by plates, silverware, napkins and cups.
My mom and I spent the afternoon making sure every last detail was exactly as it should be. Lights hanging across the ceiling. Streamers fall from around each light. My mom found a big light that looked just like a full moon that we hung from the center of the room. I know for sure that we want Delilah to have an amazing party. I laughed as she ordered the cooks to make food, I know for sure would be too much.
Tobias must have gotten up early to go to work because we haven’t seen him yet today. I looked over at the clock, it’s almost 4 so Delilah’s parents should be here soon. I’m not sure when Tobias is supposed to be off, it's never a set schedule being the Alpha. I’m very thankful to be the secondborn sometimes.
I made sure that I told Amelia last night to make sure that she gets Delilah here at exactly 5 tonight. I don’t expect any of them to be on time. Delilah never is and she has to get her trait from somewhere so I already know her parents will be late too. I laughed at the thought.
After a while, Delilah’s parents got here, and Katy brought the most beautiful cake I have ever seen. She decorated it to look like Demi, Delilah’s wolf. A big black wolf with gold eyes, and Happy 21st Birthday Delilah! Across the top in cursive. She’s gonna love it. You can tell she put a lot of time into it.
I showed them into the kitchen and took the cake from Katy, placing it in the fridge.
My mom heard Katy talking and rushed over to hug her best friend. Delilah’s whole family was there for us when we lost our dad. My mom and Katy have been friends since the day my father saved her daughters from being attacked. My mom and Katy instantly clicked, like they were meant to be best friends. That’s kinda how it was with Amelia, Delilah, and me, I smiled.
“Oh Sarah this party looks amazing! Delilah is gonna love it!” Katy told my mom.
“Thank you! I hope she does. You have such a phenomenal daughter. Thank you for letting us host her party.”
“Thank you so much for offering! She is loved by so many people and they would not all fit in my house.” She laughed.
I heard the doorbell ring and rushed to get it. I’ve had my fill of birthday planning talk for today. It’s just before 5. I walked to the door after I escaped from the kitchen. When I opened it I was stunned. They look gorgeous. Delilah and Amelia were here surprisingly on time. My eyes shot over to Amelia.
She is wearing a short sparkly gray dress. With matching shoes. Both in sparkle and color. She had on the slightest bit of makeup and her blond hair was up in a messy bun that looked just the right amount of messy. She has big hoop earrings hanging from her ears. I’m not sure if I have ever really appreciated her beauty before.
Delilah also looked amazing. She’s more like a sister to me than Amelia is so I know I haven’t appreciated her beauty the way a normal man would. I love her like family. I did however notice that her normal very messy curly hair was in these perfect curls with the top half partially up and a little bit of hair falling down the front framing her face. I genuinely wonder how long that took Amelia to do. The 3 of us hugged and I brought them inside.
