He was engrossed in his files when his phone buzzed, the screen lighting up with an incoming call. The moment he saw the name flashing on the screen, a soft smile tugged at his lips.
"Hello, bro," came the cheerful voice from the other end as he answered.
"Hey, Jace," he replied, leaning back in his chair. "What's up?"
"Well, right now, the plan is to get married soon," Jace said with a playful tone.
His brows arched in surprise as he adjusted his posture. "Really? That’s great news!"
"Yeah! You need to come here quickly. I want to get married this week itself," Jace said, excitement evident in his voice.
"This week?" he asked, an amused chuckle escaping him. "Why are you rushing?"
"Rushing? Bro, it’s been two years since my engagement, and you’re calling this rushing?" Jace retorted dramatically.
"Alright, alright, you’ve got a point," he said, raising his hands as if Jace could see him surrendering. "But still, why all of a sudden?"
"You know I’ll be returning in two weeks, right? I want to bring her back with me, as my wife," Jace explained, his tone softening.
"Ah, I see," he murmured thoughtfully. "So when exactly are you planning this grand event?"
"As soon as you can get here," Jace teased.
"Why not bring her here and have the wedding?" he suggested casually.
"No way. She wants the wedding to happen here, and I’m not about to argue with her about that," Jace said with a laugh.
"So obedient," he teased, a smirk playing on his lips.
"She’s worth it," Jace replied firmly, and there was no mistaking the admiration in his tone.
"You really are head over heels for her," he remarked, shaking his head.
"Should I send you her picture, bro? You’ll be as awestruck as I am," Jace offered eagerly.
"There’s no need," he replied with a small laugh. "The way you talk about her says enough. I can tell she’s amazing. I’m glad you found the love of your life."
"You will find too" Jace said warmly.
"Hoping," he replied softly, though a trace of doubt lingered in his voice.
"I wish you find her soon," Jace said sincerely.
"Thank you" he said, his tone genuine. "By the way, did you call Mom and Dad about this?"
"Yep, they’re on board and ready to come. You’re the only one left to confirm," Jace replied.
"You know how work is. I can’t just up and leave everything," he said, a note of apology in his voice.
"Come on, Can’t you take a few days off? I promise I’ll help you with the workload when I’m back," Jace tried to convince him.
"I know you would, but it’s not that simple. I’ll try my best to make it on the wedding day itself, but I might have to head back the same day," he admitted, glancing at the pile of work on his desk.
"Even if it’s just for the day, it’ll mean the world to me," Jace said earnestly.
"Alright then," he said, glancing at his watch. "I’ve got a meeting coming up. I’ll talk to you later."
"Sure. Don’t forget to call me," Jace said.
"I won’t. Bye," he replied with a small smile before ending the call.
As he placed the phone back on his desk, he leaned back in his chair, his mind briefly wandering. Despite the busyness of his life, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of longing. Perhaps, like Jace, he would also find someone who would make him smile just at the mention of her name.
