Bind Me Again was busy over the next few hours, just the way I liked it. I rang up customers and added new books to the inventory from trade-ins. Jane stayed with me. She either straightened the shelves or helped patrons find a book. It was nice having her around, instead of being stuck in the office all day. Princess mingled with shoppers or spied on them from atop a bookshelf. Only Butterscotch stayed away, which was normal for the tortie cat. “I absolutely love what y’all done with the place,” a lady said, pointing at the fall garland. “It feels like I’m walking through an autumn forest. I can’t wait to see what y’all do next.” Her words warmed my heart. I took in the sales floor and embraced the mild clutter on the shelves. The seasonal décor added to the store’s coziness.
