Chapter Five

1004 Words
“This is just crazy! I am completely normal.” Simone said as she placed the fork onto the plate. “Do you think there’s more out there?”    Kira shook her head. “I know when there’s more due to my telepathy abilities. I have never felt any other superhuman around other than mom and us.”    “Mom had powers?” Simone asked.    “Yes. She was able to turn herself invisible.” Kira answered.   Zoie blocked the two of them out as she zeroed in on the thin server who remained at the counter on his cell phone. His light hair was covered by a dark cap as his long fingers canvassed in tattoos moved rapidly. Kira followed Zoie's sight and gazed at the one who seemed to be in his mid 20s like them. As Kira read his mind, her eyes broadened.   “What’s wrong with your a*s now?” Simone asked.    “The man over there.” Kira whispered. “He’s thinking about what he did last night.”    “What did he do?” Simone asked.    Kira gulped. “Let’s just say that he has sexually assaulted someone.”   Before Simone could speak, Zoie stood up and advanced towards the counter where the man stood. Kira reviled under her breath as Simone watched on. Halting before the counter, Zoie viewed the man with coquettish eyes as he gazed back at her.    "May I help you?" He inquired.    "You can." Zoie delicately answered. Peering down at the man's unofficial ID, she proceeded. "Evan, I couldn’t help but notice you over there. I'm an extremely timid individual so this is somewhat odd for me however I was wondering whether you'd prefer to go out at some point?"   Evan cockily leaned back as he smiled softly. There was no denying that he was attracted to Zoie. Her soft brown eyes started at him filled with Hope as he gave her a wink. Grabbing the pen from the counter, Evan began to write his phone number down on the notepad that he usually used to write down orders.   “I’ll be free tonight? How about you give me a call around 8 tonight and we can go from there?” He replied.    “Sounds lovely.” Zoie replied. Grabbing the small piece of paper, she shot him a wink before returning to the booth with her two sisters. Simone took a taste of her tea in the glass cup as Kira watched Zoie dubiously.   "What?" Zoie inquired.   “Why can’t I read your mind?” Kira asked.   Zoie shrugged. “That’s not my concern.”   Standing up, Kira looked at Zoie from head to toe before walking out of the restaurant. Following behind her, Zoie grinned while Simone immediately positioned cash on the table and ran towards the two of them. Getting into the vehicle, Kira murmured.   “There’s missing pieces to this entire story and I’m getting to the bottom of it. Zoie, you took a few of mom’s personal belongings when we moved out of the house. Where are they?” Kira asked.   "There wasn't quite a bit of anything really. Most were her garments and I just sold the majority of them and kept a couple as a memory. There were a couple of books however I never tried to open it." Zoie answered.   Kira said nothing else as she quickly drove back towards Zoie’s apartment. It didn’t take long before they pulled in front of the familiar building. Rushing towards the front door, Kira pushed the door open and began to search for the books.    “It is in my closet on the top shelf!” Zoie exclaimed as she closed the door behind her. Kira laid eyes on the white box and grabbed it.    “I bet it’s her diary or something.” Simone mumbled.    Kira got the more modest book and gazed at it in disarray as the title read The Wicked. Throwing it aside, Kira grabbed the thicker book. From the appearance, you could tell that it was old. Opening it up, Kira was disillusioned to see that a large portion of the print had disappeared.   “This is bullshit!” Kira exclaimed as she tossed the book onto the table. “It doesn’t say anything since all of the print has faded away!”   “It can’t be that bad.” Simone replied. She picked up the book and flipped through a few pages before placing it back on the table.    “What did I tell you.” Kira replied. “There is nothing there.”    “I didn’t see anything but prophecy, The Great One, The Supreme One, and The Chosen One.” Simone replied.    “How will we ever figure out anything when we don’t even know where to start?” Kira asked. Simone looked over towards Zoie who leaned against the wall. Rather than taking part in the discussion, Zoie stared in space with her black eyes. Zoie looked completely out of it and it worried Simone. Despite the fact that it had been a long time since they last addressed each other, Simone was still upset at what Zoie was becoming.    “It’s almost as if she’s losing her humanity, Kira. We don’t know what we’re dealing with.” Simone said.    “I know and that’s what has me worried.”    As Simone and Kira continued to talk amongst themselves, Zoie had returned to normal. Clearing her throat, she caught the attention of her two sisters.    “There’s snacks in the fridge and cabinets. I must leave now but I’ll return later on.” Zoie announced.   "Where are you going?" Kira inquired.    Zoie smiled. "I have a date."
