Chapter 2: Saving a Life

After that, they took me to their son's room where he lay stuffing for what ails him. When I saw him, I began checking his pulse and his temperature. He was burning up. I had to start removing his shirt quickly with the permission of his parents. They say "do whatever you can to say to him". And I did. After checking his chest, I noticed a wound that looked to be what the cause was, seeing it blacking his veins. I knew what it was. I stepped back to get my bags to look through to find the herb that was the cure. After administering it to the boy, he became much better, showing signs of recovery. When done, I told the maid to keep him clean as could be and to change clothes every half an hour from his head.

Once I was out of what I like to say healer mode", I turned to my patient. He looked to be the same age and very handsome too. With his dark as night hair-pale skin, I knew then when he grew up he would be very handsome. Once done, I asked if I could talk to the leader/alpha and his wife alone so I could tell them what happened to their son and get some answers as to how he got like that. They led me to a room with chairs where tea was offered. I said, " This won't be easy, but what caused your son's healing problem was poison". Then the mother stood up in the middle of what I was saying. She said, " that's not possible. I make sure every meal that is cooked is checked and ingredients". I had to put my hand up and say " the food did not deliver this poison and it was a rare poison. You are quite lucky I came when I did. Otherwise, he would be dead by now. The Alpha and Luna (his wife) were both in shock from what I just told them. But he allowed me to continue. "As I was saying, you have been poisoned by a wound on his left chest. It looks thought of an arrow and think the arrowhead was least with poison that enters the body through the wound." They both look at each other and nod their head more the alpha speaks.

" Well, actually, yesterday our son and his friends were playing in the woods as they usually do when we suddenly got a mind linked about some rogues and hunters nearby. Then my son and his were attacked and were shot with a crossbow by a hunter. His friend's mind linked us about the attack, so we could come and help save them as quickly as possible. When we arrived, the boy had some scratches but nothing else. We drove the hunter away and killed the rogues that had entered our territory.

After that, I was given a place to stay in a building where I could start up a*****e. It was the beginning of everything, but this was also the moment when my troubles began. The seed of hate in the pack would begin and I would lose everything that mattered to me in every way possible.

The place wasn’t that bad. It just needed a bit of reorganizing and some reorganizing and it will be livable. When I went out, I saw someone had already planted some medical herbs and normal cooking ones too. That night, I prayed that grandmother was OK and that this new life would be wonderful.

The next morning, I went to Alpha's and Luna’s house to check on my charge to see how he was doing. As I approached their son’s room, I heard some noises coming through the door, so I pushed the door and entered. What I find shocks me to my core. He is awake, more than that, he is up about as if nothing had happened. When he looks at me, he starts screaming as if I had entered a young boy's room without permission.

I had to bow to him as he is the heir and apologize for entering with a smile on my face to let him know I meant no harm towards him just as I was about to speak. “ Who are you and how are you in my room,” at what he asked before he continued to stare at me as if looking at a precious jewel. That should have been a warning for me to know he was my mate, but I didn’t think anything of it.

When I was going to inform him of whom I am, his father and mother came running in to look at the situation at hand. As I looked at the young alpha heir more closely, I saw him with hair as black as a raven, eyes as green as fresh grass, with olive skin. Altogether, he looked like a beautiful innocent child who was loved by his parents. I could see there was a darkness that they would get what they desired no matter the cost.

Even to this day, I find that moment to be when my life's fate will change, as he desired from good to bad as it went to worse. He is looking at his parents and begins to speak in a confused voice, “ father, mother, who is that person in the doorway, and what happened?”

They looked at each other, then “ Son, that person is the healer that came to save your life. Don’t you remember what happened in the forest with your friends?” Jonathan gave them a confused look as he tried to remember the events they experienced. Then, with a singular thought, it all came back to him in a flash.

He got up from his bed to stand and looked at where his wound should be. But we were shocked to see it was gone as if it had never happened. Once the realization of everything sank in, he said ” What happened to my friends? Are alright and the hunters. What happened to them?” His parents explained the situation and how I came to be there to treat him. Once done, he turned to me, “thank you for saving my life. Thank you”.

“It is an honour young heir” with which I bowed “alpha, luna, I will take my leave as the young alpha seems to be all healed in other work to attend to”. The alpha began to wave his hand as a dismissal to me.

Once I walked to the store I would be starting up, I began to clean some more before going to look for some ripened herbs for medicine for the store. Just as I was about to leave, I spotted the young alpha with his friends approaching me.

“Young alpha heir, what a surprise you may ask why you came here to meet with me with your friends”. He was looking into my eyes, nodding his head before bowing to me along with his friends. “From the bottom of my heart, as alpha heir and for my friend too, I wish to humbly thank you for saving my life, but also, my friends, as well.” “Thank you, young healer, altogether his friend said. Once done, they raised their heads and looked at me with gratitude in their eyes. “Might I ask where you are going at this time of day, milady?” “Young alpha heir I am going to the forest to pick some herbs to make some medicine to sell. Would you care to join me if you wish?”

With that, he and his friends' eyes started to sparkle as if they were excited about learning and joining me, as if I was going to be a new adventure for them. But for me, it was going to be another day of hard work for my survival now.

I took a deep breath before saying “ Of course, you may join me, but are the alpha and luna fine with you coming with me to the forest. How did your last journey go when you got there?”

“Yes, of course, they are fine with it as the warriors have already made their rounds and as long as we aren’t too far from the village we should be OK.” “ Very well, you and your friends may come as you wish.”

“But before we depart for the forest, allow me to formally introduce myself. I am Johnathan. To my right is my future beta Troy. Next to him is Ivy and to my left is my future gamma Jasper.” “It is nice to meet all of you. My name is Rosalind.”

With that, we started walking through the forest. Ivy started coming up to me “so your name is Rosalind, it’s. Finally, good to have another girl in the group.” I was looking around for some herbs when I began to ask, “so how long have you been friends with So?” “Since we were babies, our mothers are friends and we practically grew up together. But now you are here, I can finally have a female friend to talk to.” I nodded in agreement. “ It is nice to have a female friend. I didn’t really have friends growing up. I had to help my grandmother with the herbs.”

“That is so much fun. I mean to be able to know what can be used to save a life and what is deadly I wish I knew.” “Do you want me to teach you?” “Are you sure I don’t want to get in the way of your work and, all?” “Nonsense, I could always use another helping hand plus with your werewolf senses you could probably find more herbs than I.” With that we began to laugh, I truly thought of her as a friend before it all went wrong.

As we continued into the forest, I saw one of the plants I needed. “ This is a cleaver, you need to cut it near the ground but don’t pull it completely where the roots show”. Jonathan replied, “ So how much of this do you need, Rosalind?” “Not too much. Just a handful from each of you will be enough for a while.”

“So, Rosalind, what does this cleaver do exactly?” Ivy asked. “Well, it has many uses, but the one I use it for the most is dealing with burns and swellings.” “I see, so this must be in high demand, then why do you ask us to pick a handful of this?”

“Ivy, that is what my grandmother taught me. It is the first, of being a healer, to always respect nature, so I only take what I need, nothing more, nothing less.”

Once done, we walked a bit more before stopping to rest. That’s when I see ripened blackberries ready for picking. As I started moving towards them, I heard “I'm hungry, does anyone have anything to eat?” After picking some blackberries, I handed some to each of them and pointed to where I had found them. “Here you have here. It's called blackberry. It's OK to eat it as long as it is completely black. It should fill while we walk back to the village.” They just looked at it then nodded.

“So this blackberry, what does it do?” Jonathan asked. “ The blackberry can be eaten as well as it helps with throat irritation but, I mainly use it for pain relief.” When they finished feeling better, we headed back, having laughed at Jasper's face covered in blackberry juice. As I was headed back to my new store to start preparing the medicine, Jonathan approached. “Thanks to the adventure in the forest, I think the others were a bit scared after what happened with the hunters. So the next time you have to go into the forest, can we join you?” “ You really want to come with me again into the forest?” “Yes, it was interesting and fun. The others agree with me. There isn’t much to do around here and our wolves have loved it.” “Very well I inform you and the rest when I plan to go into the forest next time.” Jonathan just nodded and left with the others.

I thought at that time, ‘I have real friends now who like me for me’. However, after a few months of having that feeling and enjoying it in my life, it will be taken from me with no chance of receiving it again.
