Sponsor

819 Words
“Are you sure this company is planning to sponsor me?”, I asked my manager, Mr. Rishi for the 24th time since this morning. We are currently in the waiting room of Ivanovna businesses. We were waiting to meet the CEO who was going to be my sponsor for an hour. For the last 10 years, I have never had a big sponsor. Here, the waiting room itself is way bigger than my whole store. “Are you sure Rishi?”, I asked him ‘again’. He turned to glare at me with his brown eyes,” Yes. You even hear the receptionist say our name and tell us to wait”. He says. He is actually my editor too. When I came to this city with Lily, I met him at the hotel we stayed at. At first, he helps me as he edits my works online. Then he helped me to buy a place to stay for me and Lily. He is one of the people I trust in my life and my work. That’s how he became my manager aka editor. Even though he was younger than me, he never respected me. He keeps scolding me for two hours if I make a mistake at my work. Sometimes he resembled my brother. Now also, when he gets a call from this company, he keeps insisting me to take him with me. If I make a single mistake, he will give me a lecture when we leave. “Ms. Zoey and Mr. Rishi. Mr. Mariano is waiting for you at his office. You can follow me; I will get you two there.” the Receptionist said as lead a way to elevator. When they get on the elevator, “which floor?” I ask from outside. Because I have claustrophobia. She looks at me and says 17th floor. I told Rishi, went with her and informed her I had claustrophobia, so I would take the stairs. I shouldn’t have run on the stairs. See here, I’m breathless on the fifth floor. But I have to be on time, because it’s my first big sponsor. As I reached fourteen floors, I was fully out of breath. I sat on the stairs to catch my breath. I got a notification as a text from Rishi saying ‘come fast’. I replied to him, ‘three more floors’. As I close the messages, I accidently open my internet. I look at my history, which was full of is about a person named ‘Lorenzo Morelli’. At first, I believed he had pranked me. After I saw the news about him on the internet, I started to get panicked. I started to read articles about him. I mentally told myself that I shouldn’t get close to a person like him. Why in the world did I meet the leader of the Italian mafia? Why in the world do I help the person who kills people? Why in the world did he come to my store when he owns this whole city? Why in the world does he ask me out when he has to be in jail for the crime things he is doing? ‘I shouldn’t think about him’ I said to myself as I started walking. When I reached arrival, I saw that the receptionist was waiting for me in front of the stairs with a bottle of water in her hand. I got it from her and drank and asked her about Rishi. She says he was talking with Mr. Mariano. I thanked her, and she got the bottle from my hands. I saw myself in the mirror near an elevator and scolded myself for the choice of outfit I’m wearing today. I’m wearing my white shirt tucked into my blue jeans as my outfit today. I even slightly saw my own skin because sweat drenched my shirts. I untucked my shirt and made it loose on myself. That receptionist, her name is Anna. I just saw it on her tag, she led me to the room. She stops in front of the door and turns to see me. I nodded. She knocked on the door two times. There was a faint sound heard from inside. She opened the door and let me in. I walked in and looked around the things in that office. It looked exactly the same as in office stories. I saw a big glass table at the middle of the end of the room where Rishi sat on the chair opposite to Mr. Mariano. There were bookshelves on his right with books and files and many golden trophies. But my favorite thing in this room is, you can see the whole city from the left side of a glass wall. There was a person sitting on a couch in front of it, but I could only see his back.
