Chapter 10 Rome. Present day. There were pages everywhere. Little generally enjoyed such a state of affairs, but in this case it did not seem to make anything better at all. She, Anna, and Sira were all standing in the living room of the apartment in Rome after Sira had announced that the place needed, as she put it, “a thorough upheaval.” So far this had yielded nothing but scraps of paid bills, old opera playbills, and sticky notes with unknown numbers scrawled across them in Enrico’s handwriting. “What about the safe?” asked Anna. Little had forgotten about the safe, a most mysterious object about the size of a large cardboard box that her father had always kept in a reinforced cabinet of the living room, saying only that he kept his valuables there. She had never looked, of course.
